Title: The Big Picture (2008)
Post by: Zylos on September 27, 2009, 06:51:39 PM
2008 was an eventful year, and 2009 is showing much to be the same. I have found a collection of the most influential photos taken last year that shows what life was like. I'll only post a few here, save time and space here, but I definitely recommend you take a look at the gallery just to take a look at what was, what is, and what may be in the future.

Lightning bolts appear above and around the Chaiten volcano as seen from Chana, some 30 kms (19 miles) north of the volcano, as it began its first eruption in thousands of years, in southern Chile May 2, 2008. Cases of electrical storms breaking out directly above erupting volcanoes are well documented, although scientists differ on what causes them. Picture taken May 2, 2008. (Carlos Gutierrez)

A rescue helicopter prepares to hoist aboard surviving Japanese climber Hideaki Nara near the summit of Aoraki Mount Cook in New Zealand on December 5, 2008. A Japanese climber stranded for six days just below the summit had died just hours before rescuers reached him and a compatriot, local media reported. The two Japanese climbers were forced to huddle in a tent 50 meters below the 3,754-meter (12,349 feet) peak, as poor weather and high winds foiled attempts to rescue the men by helicopter. I take credit for none of this stuff, even the link to this stuff was pointed out on another site some time back. It was just moving enough that I had to share with you guys, as I'm positive that some of the pictures can really relate to some of you. That last picture for example brought back the memory of how the atmosphere was when Obama won, and the excitement of the crowd as we waited in Grant Park in Chicago to hear his speech.

No disrespect intended, Mr. President...
This is what happens when you stay up really late, using Paint unsupervised.
