Title: Pirate Bay 2.0 - Pirates to become consumers
Post by: :) on July 03, 2009, 02:18:35 PM
Well we all know that TPB was sold again; and this appears to be the first remarks by the new owner:

http://digg.com/d1vSuC

Quoteas early as next month. The free video games, pre-release Hollywood blockbusters and gigabyte-length discographies that currently dominate the site's most-popular list will be gone, replaced by whatever content the movie, music and software industries deign to sell — yes, sell — on the site they've been battling for years.

I guess a lot of people will be going to Mininova or whatever other places there are now.

Not that I ever go to such places, or am even familiar with Pirate Bay... >_>;

I read about the system the new company is gonig to implore, and it confuses the hell out of me.

They reckon they can cut the costs of ISPs by 90% with hosting files on users PCs rather than servers. I can't really figure how this work. But they said they'd charge ISPs for the service, and then give money to the copyright owners and uploaders.

Let's see if I can find the article...

Can't seem to find out.

doesn't really matter. I still enjoy using Demonoid. On rare occasions demonoid doesn't have what i'm looking for, I never use piratebay anyways. usually mininova if anything else.

I have a theory about The Piratebay:

The company that bought them is a member of the RIAA, I'm thinking they bought them out so they could get individual uploaders. The company that bought Piratebay helped with their defense in a trial they had, so I'm thinking that was just to gain their trust or some dumb shit like that.

??? feel free to add on to this

The site is dead. It's over, everyone's just going to go somewhere else.

I disagree.

The extensive news coverage TPB has gotten over the past few weeks has caused it's userbase to swell. Often the search engine is overloaded. I think the numbers have probably doubled (just a guess) since they've been dragged through the news. If it becomes a legit way to get songs a lot of people will use it.

Let me rephrase;

The site is dead for piracy.

The Pirate Bay is of no use to me anymore.

I read that the owners want to make it legal to torrent games from PB; something like they'd send ad revenue to publishers

the site sending revenue won't satisfy what they make from consumers purchasing individual copies.

What, do they think people honestly download videogames because it's more convenient than going to a store and buying it?

Pirate Bay 2.0: Why buy a game a play it immediately and then sell it back when you're done when you can pay for it and then wait 4 days for it to download, buy a cd to burn it to, mod your console to play burned cd's, and THEN play it, and never be able to get your money back!?

GENIUS :V

I know, not to mention that they'd need the revenue themselves for keeping the site running. Unless they put ads that take you away for thirty seconds on every link. I doubt it's going to work. I pretty much use Isohunt already...it doesn't come up with as many results but it's much easier to search.
