Title: Problem with CD Drive
Post by: Kokowam on June 06, 2009, 05:10:44 PM
My bro messed up his computer because he's a retard. He can't get on to the desktop unless it's on safe mode. We tried putting in a Windows XP CD in to reformat (because nothing will permanently remove the virus) but the computer won't recognize the fact that it's put in.

Before, we had problems with Malware Doctor coming up even though we didn't install it. Any ideas on what to do?

Can you open the drive in safe mode?

Does the computer recognize the CD before the boot menu loads?

??? The CD Drive itself opens.

That's the problem. There just isn't an option to boot the computer with the CD.

Get into the configuration and check the boot order. Make sure the CD drive comes before hard drive.

If it still doesn't work, and the CD is good, I'm guessing it's a hardware issue.

Place a bootable virus scanner on a flash drive and boot into that.

http://www.inside-security.de/INSERT_en.html looks good. Otherwise use google

What the brand and model of the computer?

1. Shut the computer down.
2. When your computer is booting try pressing f1, f2, f10, f12, or DEL. One of these keys should get you into the BIOS. From there you can change the boot device order.
3. Arrange the cd rom to be the first boot device followed by your hard drive.
4. Make sure to save the settings. There will be an option in one of the menus to do that.
