MS Paint, GIMP, Photoshop, Charamaker, iDraw, Graphics Gale, Pixen, Paint .NET...

When you said edit and make your own sprites, I thought you meant an image edittor. I split your post from another thread that specifically said exactly what the generator was, neverminding the fact that the answer is also friggin' stickied in the resource section. Try looking a little harder next time.
