Title: Game Compression issues
Post by: roundeye on May 02, 2009, 12:32:57 AM
Hello everyone,

So, I sorta have the rough draft (a beta, if you will) for my game. I want to send it to a friend of mine so he can test it out. Now, I went ahead and compressed the project file(one time with rtp and one time without), and that completes without much of an issue. However, whenever someone tries to run the resultant executable, the extraction process fails. This usually happens mid-way through the BGM extraction. I have no idea what to do. It's sort of making me raeg. Anybody have any suggestions?

One thing I can think of is that you named a BGM with a different language/something like it has japanese or whatever. That happened once to my friend but I'm not sure ^^;

Hmm,

I don't think that's the problem. It's still failing at extraction. Thanks for the advice though. I wonder if it has to do with the scripts. Does anyone know of a way of encrypting and compressing the files other than through VX?

If it compresses fine but you can't extract the file after it gets compressed, then try a new program. I use winRar.

Hi everybody. I need some help and i guess someone will give me advice (sorry for my English).
I'm making a short 30-min demo of my game and want to post it. The problem is almost the same - i need
to compress it in encrypted archive, but theres something wrong with it. Rmvx compresses only half of the files (mostly audio) and says that all was successful. So i can create normal or encrypted archive but i cant unpack it - extraction fails and archive missing most of the files. I may use winrar or zip, but it wouldn't be encrypted - i need it cause i have lots of custom resources. If only way is winrar, then i doomed ;9

Can you post screenshots of how you go about creating encrypted files for RMVX.

make sure that all of your files are in the right folders before you go to encrypt it. it's possible, but not likely, that VX could be referencing sources outside of the project folder and when it encrypts, it only encrypts what's in the folder. If this were the case, then what would happen is what you explained. So make sure you go back and double check everything first. If all else fails. uninstall and reinstall. try again.

Thanx, but none of that helped. I think ive found a cause of an error. I have a 100 mb of audio and 70 mb of graphics and other stuff. Rmvx misses half of it so i tried to compress audio folder separately in winrar. Now all goes like it must be :blizj: Thank you all for help and sorry for disturbing.

wow. for a 30 minute demo, that is WAY TOO MUCH SHIT to have in one project. I think that you need to rethink your strategy in using resources in games. :O

I like detailed games ;D
Yeah, there is a little overdo with the sound, but graphics - no sir.

uh... I don't even know how you can get 70mb of straight images. Unless you use an extreme amount of high resolution pictures and massive parallaxes or something lol

Yes, a lot of massive parallaxes ;D
