Title: Installed XP, can't get back into vista .-.
Post by: Irock on April 20, 2009, 02:58:08 AM
Installed SP3 on a 10gig partition, the OS boot menu changed, and Vista isn't on the list. I didn't expect this to happen. Vista is still on my C:\ partition.

Help. ._.

I don't think that the default windows bootloader supports multiple operating systems.

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery. Does Vista show up in Default operating systems? Probably not, if it doesn't then click Edit. Depending on how many partitions you have this next step might vary, it should say something like

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

where the partition number is different. What you need to do is copy and past the line you have and put it under Operating Systems, so it should look like this

[boot loader]
timeout=30 (this just means how much time you'll have to pick an operating system)
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Now let's say you have XP installed on partition(1) and Vista on partition(0). You'd want to change the second line to

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Vista" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

for it to work. If you do this correctly you'll see these two choices when you boot up. But for god's sake don't go changing Default Operating System before you know what line to use.

Uh, I used a program to make the Vista bootloader the default, and to add XP to the list just now. ._.

I was encountering a Vista specific problem in the GECK (http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_Page).

I can't sacrifice Vista's UI for better performance. It's too hard for me. ._.

I think Vista's visual style is disgusting. I'm talking about the interface itself.

The only thing wrong with Vista is with its insane RAM usage. ?_?

I prefer the interface. ;]

You don't seem to understand the difference between a GUI and RAM usage.

No, nouman is out fly fishing. Vista has a great UI, it just sucks a lot of your power. Oh, make sure you disable Aero.

Yeah, cause we all use luna right?
Title: Re: Installed XP, can't get back into vista .-.

Luna is a visual style, changing your visual style still gives you the same GUI layout. I'm obviously not talking about the visual styles themselves. I think both aero and luna are disgusting.
