Title: I'm new
Post by: Kira-DN on March 23, 2009, 05:10:52 PM
I'm just starting out with rpg maker 2k3, I dont know if I wanna look for tutorials I know I should but I found one and I dont think its all that great and I dont wanna spend hours looking for tutorials when I could just screw around with everything and learn stuff by experimentation.

One thing I want to know is can I get the screen to go black immediately when you hit new game? I have an even set up to make the screen fade to black like a second after the game starts, but I would like the screen to go right to black tell a short story or something and then the game starts and you walk around.

Second how do I make it so that theres only one character in the party at the start, and add more when I want to?

......Well I cant think of any other questions, but can someone link a good tutorial that covers pretty much everything, is there some sort of manual to download?

First off, welcome to RMRK~ *hugs*

Secondly, an autorun/automatic event will have a small delay as it is processed, but a parallel process will not. What you'll want to do is have a parallel process tint the screen completely black first, then switch to an autorun/automatic event for your cutscene.

Thirdly, I'm not too familiar with the older versions of RPG Maker, but if it's like XP or VX, you can adjust the starting players in the database under a system tab.

There's not really a manual that everybody follows, but if you want to make any sort of game, you'll need to know how switches and variables work. I think this tut only covers variables, but it's still an incredibly helpful guide: http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,14159.0.html (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,14159.0.html)

A lot of other stuff you pretty much find out on your own, but I had trouble understanding switches and variables until I read up on them.

Another question:

Can you change how fast the character walks?

Probably with the Set Move Route command like in XP and VX.

I dont know how to have my game start.

Any suggestions?

I had and idea of having the hero start out on the world map and have an event that makes him walk to a village but I cant get the even right.  "move evet" gets the character to move but he moves in one direction, had him moving left and couldnt get him to turn.

and I cant find set move rogute command.

I don't know if this was your problem, but if you want the character to change directions, just click on move ____ In whatever direction you want. For example:
Oh, and if you want to speed your character up (or slow them down), set an auto-start event on your first map & set their movement speed (The red circle) to whatever you want. If you want running shoes (press a button and you run faster), then that takes some common eventing/parallel processing stuff that I won't go into, but there are tutorials for that.

You probably have the event on parallel process, so the event keeps repeating the first command. Try autorun instead, or put wait frames after the Move Event

Is it possible to create more monster groups, skills, and items?.....well skills and monster groups, items can be downloaded as resources I know that.

Yeah, pretty much you can just play around with the database for all of those rather than download anything.

So I CAN get make more monster groups, skills and items, rather than getting rid of one skill to turn it into something else? same with items, and monster groups?

How do I go about getting a picture of a map up here? I have a small village where the game starts I think it looks good and finished but I want more opinions on how I did.

All you need to do is increase the maximum of the list, and you can add more monsters/skills/items/etc. to that list.

As for taking a picture of your map, you can screenshot your game by pressing Shift and Print Screen. Once you do, just paste it into your favorite image editor, save it, and upload it to some place like Photobucket. I'd recommend posting the picture in the screenshots thread rather than in this thread though.

there is a cap, you know.
they only allow you to have -so many- entries.

it's not endless.

Ok I got an even setup inside a house where the game starts, how do I make it so the event runs just the one time when the game first starts but wont run again if you leave the house and re-enter it?

Make a switch called "Leave house" or something like that. After your event is all good and done, turn that switch on. Create a new page, and on the left hand side, check one of the Switch boxes & set it to your Leave house switch. Make sure that page is blank, and the event will go bye-bye.

I am new here too and I thought I could post in this thread instead of starting new...

I have two questions:

1) Can the "T" thing be removed somehow so the battles would be turn based? Right now I see there is some kind of T bar next to HP and MP bars that recharges after everry hit...

2) Is it possible to change the direction of the battlefield? From this:

Into for example this:

Thanks.

It's not possible to remove the ATB in rm2k3.
And yes it's possible to change the angle to that.

I recommend checking this site out:
http://rmt.divinelegy.com/

It's has beginner->intermediate->advanced.

Ah.. Thank you for answering my post, I'll take a look on that link.  ;)

I was trying to make a game that is just like Lufia II - Rise of the Sinistrals.. It has these turn based battles.
Here's a gameplay video by me so you can see what it is like:

@ Vilde : Actually There are a way To let the T Gone, Just simply Delete it From System, To be blank (Background colour), And turn to be both, All hero and all enemy's Agility To be 500 (Max Agility), And at the game, At menu, You'll see "Wait" And "No Wait" Turn that to be "wait", Then When your chara attack, And after that, Your enemy Will attack, And will to be lufia 2  xD That game again xDDDD
It'll make You play it at battle To be turn, After you, The enemy attack, After that you again, And so....
For the second one, You'll need two battle background,  And two battle animation (Your hero and enemy animation) in different Angle, And then just add the Event at the battle, For the Background, And Using Battle animation for the hero and for the enemy, You can hide the first one and change to be the second one (You have to Hide the second when the battle begin)
If you don't understand, Just post again here, I'll gonna check up sometime, Good luck  ;)
