Title: Split-Quote Posts...
Post by: Holkeye on February 17, 2009, 09:21:23 PM
When I'm reading the posts in a thread, getting the information needed to effectively make a reply, and I come across a split-quote post, I cringe. I can not stand these abominations, and I want to know how others feel about them. My main reasons for being against them is because they are a lazy, time-wasting, incomprehensible way to respond to somebody, and I can't take them seriously. I usually just skip over what the poster is saying, but that makes the rest of the thread confusing. Now, I have friends on here that post in this fashion, so it's not a personal thing. I just think that these things are another way to make typing on the internet something less than legible. What if you went out and bought a novel on the presidential debates, and on every page were quotes from earlier in the book, and one line responses to them. That book would fucking suck. Even if it was the most informative book ever written, nobody would want to read something like that.

wow this is pointless.

I'm sorry but all I see here, and in IRC was "Hi I'm Holk, I don't like this, nobody should post like this it's stupid, listen to me.  There's no reason why it could be good because I find it annoying."

I never said that anyone should listen to me. I also never said that there's no reason why it could be good. I simply want other people's opinions on the matter. I noticed that you didn't say anything about the issue.

no, it's not bad, because it makes it easier to completely clarify what part of a post you are addressing when replying.

You mean like;

Quote from: RophloOfTheHolkBlah blah blah.
No you're wrong.

Quote from: RophloOfTheHolkSoup soup soup.
I concede.

Quote from: RophloOfTheHolkFeet leet reet geet greet.
Nobody ever said that.

?

It makes it easier to pick out what someone else has said, the book example would be from what YOU have said but yeah doesn't really annoy me.
