Title: Computer performance monitor going ballistic
Post by: Arrow on February 13, 2009, 07:31:56 PM
I had the balls to open my PC up today and dust it. It's the first I've done it in the 4 years I've had it. I unscrewed the CPU fan and cleaned it with a q-tip, and swiffered the large flat spaces, q-tipping sensitive parts. Tomorrow I'm getting a can of compressed air.

I turned on my PC...

What the fuck guys? D:

Show the process tab =o

You just took the fan off the heatsink right? Or did you take the heatsink off the CPU itself?

If you "cleaned" away what was in between the base of the heatsink and the CPU, bad boy, you need to buy some thermal paste tomorrow too and then re-apply some.

I've heard that swiffering and vacuuming the inside of your computer is bad, because it moves dust particles around and creates static friction. Roph would know better than I would though.

What I did was like

[ Fan ]
[Big black box with a lever on it]
[gigantic flat card]

I unscrewed, cleaned, and reattached the fan.

As I was dusting I was getting a MAJOR headache. @____@

EDIT: DId it anyway, that did the trick! :3

anti-static wrist strap or mat if your clumsy like me. some plastic tweezers might be good too i pull dust out with them just remember to equalize their charge with the pc(pick them up touch the inner metal hull(LOL SPACE SHIPS) of your pc.
