Information
This is probably going to be my first and last major project in Rpgmaker XP (Actually I have a partner but he's working on the GM version). This is a Final Fantasy 7 parody + Touhou's very own Cirno. This is made for Gaming World's Fangame contest and I'm posting an advert here for some reason O_o
Story
The summer heat has reached Gensokyo Edge but a festival is going to happen soon. Shinra is one of the sponsors for the festival; what they have to deliver is yet unknown. Reisen, an ex-scientist from Shinra sees a job offer at the guild. A Supply Ship from Shinra co. is coming and guardians are needed to protect what it contains. Cirno, curious and as well as self proclaimed protector and strongest of all in Gensokyo decided to apply for the job.

She smartly keeps Gensokyo in peace with Bastard Cirno Sword, a giant sword consisting of six swords, Winning Sword in the Center, Watermelon Sword, Chocolate Edges and Wafer Blades.
She gets angry when someone calls her "Cat Tongue"

I can't tell if the water is waaaaaaay behind the foreground rocks, or just right between them.
it looks weird with only the clouds as the background.

it's a combination of the background, and the fact that it just turns solid blue after a while.
if you had it shade darker as it got lower, or maybe had bubbles in it or something, it'd be a bit more clear.
might I also suggest working on perhaps making the cliffs a little less square?
maybe some jutting rocks, or a rocky incline for edges?
oh, and the spriting work is absolutely superb, as is the character art.
I can't CG for crap, I'm gonna have to practice before I work on my next project =x
@__@ The CGs looks beautiful, thou the thing that bothers me, is the Background, dunno why >.>;; it sorta looks out of place combined with the Character CGs :x
I love the "throw backs" side scrolling, art-illustrated. In all mediums, but especially in games, we move on too fast. Like how black-and-white movies can be especially great, but usually after color films have been out for years. (The Following by Christopher Nolan is simply incredible.)
In any case, this reminds me of the success that Odin Sphere had, releasing a beautiful, side-scrolling jrpg on the PS2 long after the PS3 was released.
Can't wait to get my hand on that card system either.

not sure if I'm retarded and just don't recognize proper human anatomy or not, but her leg (the bending one) looks like it's too low, and her torso looks a bit long.
edit: it's a combination of the short top, and the fact that the bottom looks like it's resting on her hip, even though I suppose it's above her hip (the belly button there makes it look like it's her hip)
so perhaps it's just me.
other than that, amazing work so far.
It's also easier to tell that the water is in the foreground (in that one cliff screenie) but the top of the water is barely visible. I'm still thinking some slope instead of just straight/squares would make it look ten times better.
