Title: Tales of the Abyss
Post by: Arrow on November 09, 2008, 09:56:08 PM
I just bought it.

Opinions? Thoughts? Tips?

I already own Vesperia, so talk about that too.

I didn't like Abyss, or Vesperia >:C
I liked Symphonia though.

I liked Abyss a lot (and Symphonia too).

Luke's annoying. When he's still saying Master Van 55 hours into the game, it can get really annoying. Anyway, gameplay-wise, it's pretty much the same as Symphonia. The story isn't really strong enough to justify the 60-80 hours of playing IMO, so whenever you see sidequests, take them just to break up the main quest. It's also a lot more fun to play with another person, so if that's a possibility, do it.

Anyway, good luck and have fun.

I thought abyss was pretty good. The AI was pretty good (last I checked but I'm probably comparing it to Tales of the World RM AI  and thats not saying much). The one thing I liked about abyss is your healers can deal decent damage, I tend to stay playing as Natalia when playing with a friend. Like Modern said, if you can play with a friend, do so  because it makes the game a lot better.

Abyss is similar to Vesperia in terms of combat. However in Abyss even though there's no cheap overlimit stuff that would make infinite spell combos, the FoF system is really easy to abuse. Like whenever you use a FoF Arte you're like invincible for the entire animation, and this makes dodging deadly moves really easy.
Also there's this world map bug where if you go on the world map, open the disk tray (New "Slim" ps2 only), you can skip to anywhere in the world and pretty much level up your characters pretty early in the game. This same glitch is also used to play as a certain temporary character permanently.

I prefer Vesperia in gameplay, but Abyss is good for its story. Don't get too attached to the characters though.

Tales of Abyss was quite fun for a good amount of hours. Pretty good graphics, too.
Looking forward to get Tales of Vesperia lol
