name your favorite games for LAN parties and why you like them.
A few of my friends at college are trying to get one together and we need ideas, as well as games that can be installed across multiple computers, and don't require everyone to have a copy.

thanks for the totally informative post that answers every question and concern I raised in the OP ?_?
Worms needs no explanation.
DotA - Warcraft 3 mod. It's a lot of fun on LAN w/ no lag and stuff. Also, you don't need unique keys to do LAN, so installing one copy on all of the computers and using a CD image is sufficient.
they were leaning towards games like CS:S or Battlefield: Vietnam last I heard.
one person suggested Gunz, but nobody but him wants to do that.
Starcraft is a classic choice. If I recall correctly, the game doesn't require a real CD key for LAN games and single player, and can be easily installed on multiple computers (or run from a single computer via network). I prefer Starcraft in LAN parties over battlenet, it's just simple old classic fun. Last year we did a LAN party with SC at my school for our networking class.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. No CD keys, awesome action, and there's like 0 protection against "illegal" installs.
Also, Co-op + Grand Cathedral level + Serious difficulty = Nonstop action to the third power.

I suggested starcraft yesterday, they hate the game.

I'll keep that in mind.
Halo is actually pretty fun in LAN, xbox or comp
OMG! DID YOU SAY STAAAARCRAFT?! STARCRAFT IS AWESOMENESS! I LOVE IT!!
I HAVE LIKE OVER 100 MAPS ON IT! PLAY ME PLAY ME PLAY ME!
hiss off, open :tpg:
I'll claw your face off if u dont be carful! :police:
you're a dolt
Defcon - If you have Steam, and don't mind semi-plain graphics, this game is fun. If you've ever seen the movie WarGames, you'll know what this is about.
Age Of Mythology - I prefer it to AoE, just because of the mythical element.
Starcraft - Which has already been denied, I guess.
Also, there's a mod for Source that recreates Goldeneye. It's pretty decent, and does away with the N64's clunky interface.
PS. Open14 is going on my list.
indeed -_-;

I'm the only one with steam, and as already stated, they also despise starcraft and aoe and pretty much any RTS in existence.
I Like Age Of Empires cuz when the computer does me favors, I can play it with Rasse.
And its fun (especially 3)
And Worms. I have Worms World Party and Worms 4 Mayhem, both around 200mb rar files and they're crazy and fun. And 200mb isn't much to upload/download, so I can upload them if you want.

they hate RTS games cuz they tried that once, and it ended with them no-lifing for 16 hours on a single game of this one space/galaxy RTS, and now they never want to try one for a LAN party again.
they hate Halo because it's cool to or something...
that's pretty much all I know of that they really despise.
I bet they wouldn't hate Worms.
I usually play Warhammer 40000 : Dawn of War with my roomates ._.
EDIT:If my internet doesn't suck.
Uploaded Worms 4 Mayhem.
Now just to see if it works for me and skanker.
Open.14 is going on my list? huh?
WATD I DO?!
