Title: External HD please ._.
Post by: Irock on September 23, 2008, 07:09:22 AM
Everyone Roph, I'm considering getting an external hard drive for media storage and backups. it doesn't matter if it's firewire or USB. I just want something good around 500gb. ~

Oh and it can't be loud.

are you going to take it out? plug it somewhere else? share the files onto another computer?

why not get an internal?

He can't get an internal because:

1. He's afraid of electrocuting himself by touching parts on the inside of the computer.
2. He doesn't know how to put it in.

Because I want to transfer files to my awesome iMac when I get one. And I want to use the HD with the iMac, rather than having an internal HD sitting in a computer I don't use.

Why would I buy something that I can't use when I get a new computer? Not everyone can throw around money like you. ::)

well...the External -could- be used with the iMac as well as the PC.
Macs are able to read Windows formatted disks.

Macs are able to read Windows formatted disks.
It only has room for one hard drive, and it's not easily accessible. :aryan:

I have an enclosure and it's a hell of a better way to go about it than getting an external.
No you don't.

why do you think i'm so retarded nouman?
I only said that it's better to have an enclosure than an external and it should probably be moved to spam. I can see the logic in that.

wait...what D:

that was was my point. You didn't say anything bad so I asked

"just because zombie posts doesn't mean it should...right?"

Well if your willing to throw file capacity aside for a moment perhaps you could just buy a usb 2.0 case and put your old hard drive in it and keep all your files. A empty usb 2.0 hd enclosure is cheap as hell around 10-20 bucks.
dealextreme.com has one for less i think with free shipping but if you need all that space go for the gusto I guess.
