Title: Custom menu system featuring this?
Post by: Zambaku on August 20, 2008, 12:16:54 PM
Not asking for a complete guide or anything. Just some general pointers will do, or a link to a tutorial would work aswell.^^

I'm looking for a way to create a custom menu system that uses pictures. A grid picture to show the inventory space and as the player picks items up they take up 1 slot each. And as the player drops an item the item ends up next to the player. It would be nice if it where possible for a few visible boxes on the screen that would show what the player has equipped at the moment.

Lol you can decide to make a picture of each and every box and item. Then you show the picture and when you press down, you go to another picture. Lol, this is really hard to do without a script and, sadly, 2k/2k3 doesn't have scripts soooo... >_>

Yeah. But since RMXP and RMVX lacks a dynamic dungeon generator I will be forced to do it the hard way^^
And no, RMVX does not have a dynamic dungeon generator. The dungeons it produces  are static.

I found a perfect way to work it without pictures. I simply created a new map and as the player pics items up they show up on that map with the help of charsets, as the player stands over the item and presses enter he can either equip it, discard it or read info about it. However I have only made one item yet, not sure how to make it check to see if a slot is taken so the item ends up next to it.

Zambaku to have it come next to it you could probably use variables so when youget an item add 1 to the variable to the amount of items in your inventory. so if the variable is 2 have the item two places to the left or something like that.So do you understand what I am saying?
