Title: Oblivion makes my computer sad.
Post by: &&&&&&&&&&&&& on August 16, 2008, 05:44:08 PM
I installed Oblivion onto my computer, but when I play it it crashes after about 30 seconds... after it crashes windows shuts down.

This hasn't happened with any of my other games.

How I make it not do that no any more?

What kind of graphics hardware are you using?
Without knowing that, All I can suggest is upgrading Graphics Drivers.

I think I'm running the same laptop. Gateway?
And yeah, that makes it a lot harder to upgrade his Graphics Drivers. You could run the catalyst drivers for the x1200 series, but it won't be specific for your card.
You should be able to play under mid-low settings.
As far as the crashing, uninstall, reinstall, update to newest version, with Vista support upgrades, and 64x support. (I'm not totally 100% about this, but I think the latest update adds support for that...) And install the shivering Isles.
You also might want to consider a No-CD. (Gamecopyworld.com)
Oblivion is one of the few games I've played that crashed less with a No-CD

Update the game. If it is pirated, get a patch after updating.

It won't if you recrack it.

Also; Update, get crack for current update, apply crack as instructed.

As a quick explanation for Updates, and NO-CD's. A game update updates the main game executable, (like oblivion.exe) among other files, changing the file contents to match the update.
This basically replaces the cracked EXE with an ordinairy, updated, uncracked one.
With the updated cracked EXE, you simply replace the newly updated EXE, with the crack. Thereby maintaining the update, with a No-CD.

Try putting the settings on "Very Low". You'll get to see how I used to play the game before I got this new laptop.
