What kind of cutscenes do you wish to make?
Character pictures that appear on screen and make a conversation, or moving sprites and such?

Do read the tutorials in the tutorials section and the tutorial database first, then ask questions later.

oh god your skill with this program is incredible have you tried making an event?

normally i'm not such a dick to newbies but COME ON if you want a tutorial post in the tutorial section making a cutscene where all they do is walk and talk has got to be the easiest thing there is just use a move event and a text event

some helpful details for a noob: if you have an auto start event you must either erase it, or switch to another page on the event after the event is done. otherwise it will do one of these two things: repeat itself repeatedly, freeze the game. also if you want to show a characters face in a text window you unfortunately cannot, because the fools at enterbrain aren't the brightest bunch and took that feature out after 2k3, however you can still use a script to change this if you want. although judging by my first impression of you i wouldn't get into scripting quite yet if i was you. and the last tip, there are many events and to a newcomer... it can be intimidating. but i suggest you read what they all do and experiment a little, to see what you can do with this program, before actually trying to make a game.

I don't like being mean but I do agree with saber.

Also, if you want to get more complex you should get yourself a custom message system, either dublex's or coco's work nicely, also theres other things like overlays and the "popcorn effect" which is just the movie bars, but you need to seriously sit down and learn the program first.

Assuming you're using RMXP, try using a move event and display message event for starters.
And I'm not exactly a "sir".
