Title: [RESOLVED] Key Items Quests and Photo Albums
Post by: FruitBodyWash on May 25, 2008, 03:30:21 AM
I would like to set up two or three more options into the menu system.

First I would like to have a Quest menu, for in my game, i will have the option of undertaking several quests (I may end up limiting how many at one time, but for now, I don't think its neccessary, just to be able to have the name of the quest, and when selected to show a breif description of whats required to finish the quest)
I've seen that used in several games, including UO and  FF XII.  I figured I could have items that are put in a seperate area (like key items) that simply show text and are never used up (until the quest is done... then again it could just show quest complete)

Also, i wanted a section where there is a photo album, with select sence that the player has "taken" for example when they reach the huge chasm, it automatically snaps a shot, and goes into the photo album.  and maybe if the player so chooses, have a picture for each exotic/magical plant, animal, or spot, that goes into a sort of encyclopedia that the player can look at any time they want, but will only have the things that they have seen. And if they are unknown, keep the picture but no description until the picture can be explained.

Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

For the quest menu, there's a quest log script in the database: Credit to Sthrattoff (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,11119.0.html).  If you want using a journal to bring up the log, make a common event with no trigger.  Have the common event use the call script, and have a journal item , set to nonconsumable, that calls the common event when used.

Of course, that doesn't add it into the menu, but you'd need a script to add the script to the menu.  Or something like that.

As for the photo album, let me do a bit of fiddling with events and such, and I may be able to do something with it.

EDIT:  I've got a basic photo album working.  I'm still developing a way to implement pages.

EDIT 2:  Took me an hour of frustration, bit I got the pages to work.  Uploading the new file...

EDIT 3: Forgot something rather important in the demo, reuploading.

Thanks for all your hard work, testing it out now! :)

EDIT: YEY! This photo album is exactly what I had in mind, you rock! I might change the open book grafix a little, but, you will get full credit for this. Thanks so much!  (now to look into the quest thingy)

The open book was just something I grabbed off google images and resized.  The graphic works best at 640x480.

Lemme know if there's anything else I can help with.
