Title: Quick question about variables
Post by: jeffro0050 on May 15, 2008, 10:22:28 PM
I was a big user of RM2k many years ago and have decided to get back into this just as a hobby and am having some trouble with variables.

My version of XP has a "x" or above on variable switches, and I'm trying to make a few little test games to get this simple scenario to work.

Guy on the right, guy on the left, guy at the bottom.

You can kill the guy on the right or left, and then the guy in the middle and the remaining tells you which one you killed.

Since the variable setting in the event menu uses the "or above" setting, i can't seem to use on variable and just vary the result by setting the variable = to a number, such as 4 or 5, because if I set it to 4, both of the guys disappear and the event doesn't work.

Any idea how to get around this? Trying to use as many variables as possible this time around, as the last games I made years ago were just disaster storms of switches, must have had several thousand in my largest game.

Don't think that'd be possible with variables. You would have to use switches.

ah, thanks a bunch anyways. was hoping there'd be a simpler way to do it, but I guess switches it is :-(

You must definitely do it with variables. You can also do it with just one variable.
You can use each variable to 'store' up to 26 switches if necessary though some computation is required to extract the information.
However this is a case much easier accomplished by using switches and therefore I recommend you just use switches.
