hey its sabre that not so lovable furry i'm back again and nothing has changed i still can't make games due to auto start problems every time i try to make an auto start event of certain types (i dont remember what they all were but one of them is move event) the game freezes and i need to close it why does this happen? lets hope after a year of being gone sombody can fix it (this happens to me with all versions of rpg maker)
yes i have reinstalled the program multiple times with all versions
Hm. Try starting a new game in XP. From the map, make a single autorun event with a simple move command, like moving up and back down. Be sure to add a "Wait for Move's Completion" or a "Erase Event" right after it, and try testing the game. Does the game still freeze up?
huh that seemed to do it also i found this nifty button that says proceed with movement thought i would give that a try that also works although oddly enough i seem to remember trying the proceed with movement thing and it NOT working in the past *shrugs* oh well its better now thats all that matters
however! in the past movement was not the only auto start problem i had so i won't say this is resolved yet but now that i can continue work on my game without needing to make random black flashes (teleportation to other maps) and events that start on one map and span across about 8 i can continue work on my game... for now (dun dun dun dun?) and its about time wc3 was getting really boring
*hold fist up to zylos* FURRY POWER!... come on... no? aww its not THAT cheesy...
EDIT: its all coming back now... now the move event works... but it only goes in one direction and it doesn't stop unless i put an erase event in, which (obviously) allows only simple moves without incredibly creative events that would be a pain in the ass and involve switches by the hundreds and considering most of what i do (which so far hasn't been much) is more about the story than the walking around and killing things it involves alot of non user controlled movement and i don't have 45 minutes to spend on something that should take 2 i have tried painstakingly for the last hour or however long i've been working to find a way around this but as before i cannot
this sucks i'm a terrible writer (i can't describe anything very well) i'm a terrible artist i can't do any graphic animation unless i'm piecing things together from various already made media files yet i have this artistic passion burning inside of me this is supposed to be may way to release that but it fucking hates me i swear to god
For XP, you don't have to use a million switches to turn events on and off. Just use the event's self switches.
Now then, I need you to be a little more specific as to what your problem is. When you say that the character only goes in one direction, are you saying that even though you set the movement to go up one and go down one, it's only going up and not coming back down?
no i mean if i tell it to go up once and right 5 times it will go up and not stop going up until it hits a wall or something in which case it will just be stuck against the wall for eternity but if i was to say go right 5 times and up once it would go right forever unless i erase the event in which case it seems to work erasing the event is the only way the movement will work properly but in some cases the event its self is the thing moving and cannot be erased afterwards however i did some experimenting with parallel processes and they can move any way i tell them to but once the move has finished they do it again unless i erase the event
PS yes i tried end event processing
If you use Autostart, you MUST erase the event or turn on a self switch, if not it will keep doing it.
If you want to make a... let's say for now an intro, you will make it autostart, then put the move event, then put a wait for move's completion, put in a show text (if you want it to talk), then put in a erase event or a self switch ON, if you choose the self switch, create a new page having that self switch ON, and put nothing there (and don't put it autostart, leave it Action Button) and put nothing there.
hmm well that doesn't fix the weird glitch but i can just use parallel processes and they work close enough to auto start to be a working substitute
a switch just turned on in my brain and i now understand more about how this program works (or at least i think i do) i originally thought if i used auto start it would do the event once then stop but it seems to me now that it will start infinite times (thus the freeze) correct me if i'm wrong though and so most of my problems have been due to this
while not fixing the weird movement glitch it has enlightened me on how to prevent the freezing one which is what this thread was originally about i would say this is resolved
i just upgraded from to official from PK and now the glitch is gone
