Title: NPC Dialog and Set Route Command Issues
Post by: lucidion on March 09, 2008, 05:06:47 AM
Hi all! I just started using RPG Maker XP recently and it's the first RPG maker i've ever used.. I've begun getting used to a majority of the commands, and I've even started learning a bit of the scripting involved.. I'm having a few problems though that I could not specifically find in search.. Firstly, I'd like to know how I can set NPCs to say different bits of Dialog at different points in my game.. (I.E. an NPC congratulating you after finishing a dungeon or defeating a boss) .. As well.. I'm having a problem that seems like a noob issue but I can't figure out the problem.. I have my character in a start position in a house and I want him to move up a few steps, to the left a few steps, and face forward to trigger a cutscene. I have created an Autorun event with the desired movement code and made sure to set the route to "Player" however when I start the game the character just stands there and I can't move or even bring up the menu.. Any help with this request/issue is highly appreciated.. Thank you!

Edit: As well.. I'd appreciate if someone would tell me the basic command to put into the message box that will pause the text when it is read in game.. I found the code for seemingly all the RPG Makers other than this one! Thanks

Make sure to have the "Wait for movement" command. I don't have RPG maker XP right now, so I don't know the exact name.

From what I know, there is none. You need a script for that. There's a nice one everybody uses, I'll look for it.

I resolved the movement issue.. But i'm still having trouble being able to move my character when testing certain events.. I'm having the game set in the starter town to rain constantly.. I created the event and it rains just fine when testing, but I still can't move the character or use any controls.. Further assistance is appreciated.. :)

Edit: Problem resolved.. Had something to do with a glitch in the program, fixed!
