Anyways, more questions!
How do you argue a nihilistic concept without being self contradictory?
That would depend on what nihilistic concept you are trying to argue. Remember, there are many different categories of nihilism.
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism).
Edit: Until Dertt clarify's his question, feel free to ask more questions!

Well by putting any sort of effort into argument is defying the most basic principle of all nihilism.

Not necessarily. Nihilism is not saying "there is no truth"; moreso they're saying "it impossible to know truth". There is no truth that cannot be doubted, and therefore there is no truth that we should put faith in, save for the realization that it is futile to search for what you cannot find.

No, I like my cappuccino.
That's agnosticism, not nihilism :P
Nihilism is that there is no objective purpose in life, morality, etc... Wikipedia agrees.
*goes back and reads textbook*
Yes, you're right, I got them mixed up (they were both on the same page). But the point is still similar. Truth in nihilism may exist, but is still unobtainable by mankind. This is according to both my textbook and wikipedia. Admittedly, nihilism is not one of my favorite areas of philosophy because I do not agree with it's ideas. So I don't know much more about it other than what is written in my book.
Now then, more questions (either serious or not)!
The same question, with "nihilism" replaced by "solipsism."

lol, sry can't hear you over the sound of self-contradiction
Okay! *opens book back up*
I'm going to assume that you are asking about solipsism in general rather than a certain branch of it. For starters, there would be no reason for a true solipsist to argue a concept, because he/she believes that there is no other person to communicate the concept to. Nothing else exists except for his/her own mind. But if someone were to argue a solipsict concept, there would not be anything self-contrary about it. It would simply be impossible for the listener to believe that everything is apart of the speakers imagination, because the listener knows for a fact that he/she does exist and is not a figment of the speakers imagination.
Next question!

Nightwolf! What are you doing out there?! Stop spying on me like that!
See, now you're not answering. I just want information so i can stop doubting on your furriness.
And philosophicity or whatever ;-;
To answer your question, yes, I am furry and philosophical from any angle, on any day, from anywhere, from any distance, with or without zoom, with or without wide-angle, and in any situation.
Next question!
What if i close my eyes and hear your breathing/steps or talks.
Then are they philosophical?
Before i ask you my real question, i ned to be sure of your furriness and philosophicisity.
or whatever ;-;
My breathing/steps/farts/etc. are not philosophical. Talking depends. What I say may be philosophical if it relates to philosophy or if it can be creatively interpreted to have a deep meaning. Now, what's your real question?
2+2?
.........That's it? 2+2? (*sigh*) For all practical purposes, 2+2=4.
Now's the real question:
Is it really four or just the interpretation of logic in our illogical brains with cellular systems and a skeletal covering force us to come-up to the thought of neglecting the cremostipholispact that the fact that 2+2=4 may be pericombobulacious and could in real be 6 and our mind just is medlinontigrospocing with us?
I didn't understand half of what you said, but here's what I think.
For theoretical purposes, let's say that God or some unknowable deity was an evil genius who for his own pleasure decided to implant in our mind the illusion of reality. He could make it so that you aren't really seeing a computer screen or touching the keyboard, it's all just an illusion that's in your mind. Because of that possiblity (an absurd possibility, but a possiblity nonetheless), there's nothing that we cannot doubt, except for the fact that we are doubting (because to doubt that truth means that you are already doubting).
There is no real way to prove 100% that 2+2=4 or if it's all in our heads. In fact, it is impossible to prove 100% that we in fact have a head and brain. But through our own experiences so far, 2+2 has always appeared to be 4, so for all practical purposes, 2+2 will most likely equal 4 any time in the future.
Now let me go eat breakfast, and then the next person may ask a question.
Did you not understand due to your lack of attenticificaltomistophic indeprecendifencelepencilous or just because you didn't wanna?
I didn't understand you because google couldn't find any matches for your big words.
You should at least know what pericombobulacious means.
Sorry. I'm a fox, not a dictionary.

Mister, can you be a philosopher without consulting the textbook?

Yes, but when people refer to philosophical concepts from other philosophers, it's usually wise for me to check my facts before I open my mouth. To me, love is a complex emotion that one person feels for another person, where he or she will take great sympathy in the both the target of his/her affection and the bond between them. It's not always a happy emotion, but at times it can be the happiest emotion a person can feel. Most people would not truly understand what love really is until they've experience it.

Actually, Zylos, you are mistaken about your definition of love, but don't worry. Most of us are. As soon as I find enough online sources to explain to you what love truly is, I will show them to you.
But yesterday, in St. Valentine's Day, at the Western Culture II class, we learned the differences between infatuation and love. One of those is that, unlike infatuation, love is NOT an emotion. And to understand this, you must understand a series of other things, including Aristotle's anthropological theory.
There are still a few "holes" in what I learned today. I have some more questions for my professor. I'll see if I can clear those doubts next Tuesday.
By the way, my sources are in Spanish, and that is why I can't just write them down in here. I would have to translate. And I am not in the mood for that.
It's okay to be skeptical about what I said, by the way.
Thank you for kindly answering my question. :)

Haha... awesome.
Love is choosing to unconditionally meet the needs of another person.
Oh, my question... hmm...
If all life must end at one point, and nobody is remebered forever, what is the point in staying alive?
Lol, have you been playing FF6 lately?

Zylos, will you jump off a bridge for me ?_?
Only if you jump first.
QuoteLove is choosing to unconditionally meet the needs of another person.
You are very close. :)
A person I am physically attracted to has done terrible things in the past, and the present. Perfection escapes most people, to speak sarcastically, but what perturbs me the most is the blatant lack of resolve to do better that I see in her. This makes me emotionally and mentally unattracted to her. However, in my deepest of deeps, I know that, if she ever came to me, asking for my shoulder to lean on, I'd lend it to her. Literally.
Good or bad idea?
Does that make me a caring person, or a weak person?
In my opinion, it's a good idea. From what I've read of her in bean bags, she's definitely far from perfect (to put it mildly). But if you were in her position and you had no one else to go to, would you want to be turned away? It just shows you're a strong, caring person to let bygones be bygones and help her, despite how you feel about her now.

What do you believe exists after death? Will the conciousness shut down into oblivion, or will it stay alive, either in the sense of heaven or hell, or eternal darkness? If my question makes no sense, then try this. Do you believe in an afterlife, or just that our souls will fade into nothingness?
I consider that more along the lines of theology rather than philosophy. I'd rather not turn this thread into some big elitist debate over religion, but since I'm obligated to answer, I'll just PM you my answer and leave it at that.
Next question!
I just escaped from death, can i say woot?
And can you escape from death?
We can avoid death, but we cannot escape death. It is an inevitable part of nature and will find everyone someday.
Well, i just escaped it. He was infront of a car which was heading towards me, so i like moved and leik i'm alive.
You don't beleive i'm alive, do ya?
Yes, you're alive (for now). My point is that you're still going to die sometime within the next 100 years.

He's a Philosopher, not a psychologist.
Honestly I don't see how your question has anything to do with philosophy, but whatever. Now then, there are only three reasons I can think of for a girl to not date anyone until they are 18:
1. She doesn't like you (or she is already dating someone), and wants to let you down gently. If this is the case, you should just give it up. She's probably the bitchy type who feels that you are too inferior for her anyways.
2. Her parents forbid her from dating until she is 18. If this is the case, then her parents are probably overly-protective assholes. You would probably do wise to just stay good friends and not get her into any trouble.
3. She doesn't want to get into a relationship that she knows won't last. If this is the case, you might still stand a chance. Just be nice to her and let things slowly develop. Perhaps if you're the type to occasionally go out to movies with your friends, ask her to come along (provided she knows who your friends are). This is the kind of thing you don't plan out, but rather just let things roll along until they either roll in your favor or you give up.
Good luck. Next!

Why not post this in the bean bags forum?
Because he thinks I know everything...which is absolutely true.
Next question.
Do you think time travel is even remotely plausible?
I think that time is now, there is no "past" or "future". I see time as something man created to keep tack of his daily life. Something he uses to set dates and times for things to happen, but not something that really is.
What do you think?
In a sense, we are already time traveling into the future, one second at a time. Plus, I think it has been sceientifically proven that an object traveling at high speeds ages more slowly than a stationary object. Theoretically, this means that if you were to travel into outer space and return, moving close to light speed, you could travel thousands of years into the Earth's future.
But in the sense you're probably implying, no, I don't think time travel is possible. My thoughts are similar to yours in this respect. The past was, but exists no longer; the future will be, but does not exist yet. It is impossible to travel back into the past, and impossible to travel to an exact point in the future without experiencing the time it takes to get to that point. Even an person circling Earth at the speed of light will still experience the time it takes to circle the Earth, albeit it would be at such an accelerated rate that the time past would go unnoticed.
Any number divided by itself equals 1.
Did I just prove 0 is not a number?
No. The number zero obeys most of the same rules of arithmetic that ordinary numbers do, so it is considered a number. It is a special number, though, because it doesn't quite obey all the same laws as other numbers—more specifically, you can't divide by zero. All mathematicians agree on this.

The opposite of love, an intense emotion, would be not be a different intense emotion, such as hate. To love something, one must invest a lot of time and emotional energy in it. The same is true of hate. Hatred also takes up a large amount of time and requires a huge emotional investment. In a sense, it could be said that hatred is another form of love, just on a really complex level.
Apathy is the opposite of both love and hate. The lack of any sort of emotion or investment in a person or thing is the polar opposite of love and hate.

Let's consider a counter argument -
If the negation of hatred is apathy, and the negation of love is also apathy, then is it not true that love and hate are equivalent?
Consider a number of any magnitude. The opposite of a number with magnitude would, by your logic, necessarily be a number without magnitude: 0. However, 0 is not the negation of a number with magnitude - the negation of a number of magnitude is a number of the same magnitude with an opposite sign. Further, for anything that is opposite another, it is necessary that the relationship is reciprocal. The opposite of true is false, and the opposite of false is true. However, in the case of 0, while it may be possible to argue that the opposite of 1 is 0, it is impossible to argue that the opposite of 0 is 1. Reducing any number to just a number with magnitude loses a lot of the information that is contained by that number. You are losing information when you make that reduction, and thus, even if it were accurate to say that the opposite of a number with magnitude is a number without magnitude, it is not accurate to then translate that result to the original number, as you did not consider all of the pertinent information by making that reduction (for one, sign).
In the same way, It may be true to say that the opposite of an intense emotion is apathy, but it seems to me that to reduce love or hatred to just any intense emotion belittles the specificity of love and hatred. For one, love is positive, and hatred is negative, and reducing them both to "intense emotion" is to ignore pertinent information about those two things. Thus, even accepting that love and hatred are both intense emotions, and that the opposite of an intense emotion is indifference, is it possible to say that love and hate are just intense emotions. In other words, is knowing that something is an intense emotion sufficient to recover what intense emotion it is? Or is that translation not possible without more information? If it is not (and it is not), then it cannot be correct to assert that the opposite of love (or hate) is indifference solely because love (or hate) is an intense emotion, as that definition does not alone encapsulate love (or hate)

So, what's the philosophical furilizational rationalistic implementation of the conception of the virtuality of those living?
Quote from: modern algebra on March 16, 2008, 03:06:35 AM

Yes, this explanation is closer to my view on the subject. However, the thing about philosophy is that there really isn't a right answer. It isn't necessary that we all agree on the same thing, but rather that we provide enough reason for what we believe. And since this is Zylos' topic, it's not our place to start a debate here.

George Michael, I guess. He seems more well known.
okay i'll ask a serious question~
Do you beleive in re-birth etc, and if you do then how many times does a soul reborn?
Personally, yes. I do believe in a certain form of re-birth and reincarnation, and I believe that the soul is "recycled" repeatedly until the universe is such that it can no longer sustain any life whatsoever.
Quote from: Zylos on March 17, 2008, 02:34:17 PM

Do you think fame should be a factor when it comes to liking someone?
If it is, could you maybe direct George to my house?
Did you mean "liking someone" or "liking someone's music"?
If you meant liking someone personally, then the answer no. Fame is not important.
If you meant liking someone's music, then the answer is partially yes. If he is more well known, then there is a good chance that his music is more well liked. But it all depends on your tastes in music.
I always thought the soul is recycled until it does enough good deeds and suffers enough (suffer=living) until it's sins have been paid for.
Which is the real reason?
No one knows. There's no way to prove the theory of reincarnation one way or the other just yet.
If you masturbate, do you really go blind? :o
Well, I haven't gone blind yet, so the answer must be no.

Everybody knows that one. Here, fallow this link and you shall know why. ~Link~ (http://www.google.com)
My name is based off of this character (http://sf1.shiningforcecentral.com/shining_force.html?pages/characters_force_zylo.html).
Who would win in a fight?
RMRK Zylos or Shining Force Zylo?
Me, of course.
Are you sure? Shining Force Zylo looks really strong, and really buff.
And he looks like his womanizing stick is much much bigger too.
Doesn't matter how strong he is when it's just me, him, and 12 gauge shotgun.

You never know what life holds for you. But chances are that if you just keep your eyes open and take everyday as it comes, you'll eventually find true love. In a sense, the same can also be said for growing hatred, but I'd question why you'd want such a thing to happen.

Yes. Imagine an old man dying of old age in a hospital bed. He has accepted death because he knows it is inevitable, yet he is content. He knows he has lived a full and happy life, and has accomplished more or less everything he wanted to do in life. He has raised a wonderful and loving family, and now has a good number of grandchildren to his name. Truly, he could not wish for a happier ending to the story of his life.
