Title: tactical battle layout?
Post by: Johnnykesica on January 27, 2008, 12:48:23 PM
I'm planning on making battle in my rpg both action-based(such as in FFVI) for random monster encounters,as well as tactical(for boss events, scripted fights etc.),like in Heroes IV,so that every character has support units like archers, mages, priests and melee fighters.
Would this be accomplishable with RM?

ANything's possible. It would be very hard though, especially in 2k/2k3. You would need a good knowledge of eventing in order to make a tactical battle system, even if only for a few battles in the game. I also don't know about your game design. It's kind of strange IMO to have two battle systems. And why make a tactical battle system for bosses? Where are the tactics if there's only one guy to fight? Just move up and hit him :P

In any case, I think you'll be better off in XP because of the scripts if you don't know to event a TBS, but I hear there is a bit of a learning curve on scripts too. But if all you are asking is whether or not it is possible, I would say it is.

sounds a bit complicated for my taste but hey,one day :D
and bosses wouldn't stand alone,i was more thinking of making them very tough fights with a special knack to beating em
but i guess i'll do it with normal battles, and leave the tactical layout for another time

Basicly I tried tactics with events. It worked but the ai of the monster was a bit...low...

you can check over my notes at that link. Don't ask me for the game at this time, switch systems don't think I have that game anymore
