Alright, so here's my first Character Sprite ever :
It's based on the "Civilian 14" sprite and I changed it so it looked like this:
I can't remember where I got this picture, but, I found that character really cool...
So anyways, IF you decide to use this sprite, please credit ^_^
Wow! I love it. Looking at the girl, she looks so innocent but then you see this massive weapon and it just screams that she can be downright evil :) Also, the battler is fantastic as well. They match terrific!
Come on, people... I don't care if it's a negative post or not! I just want to have honest thoughts about it.
;D I say it's great, loads better then my first ones xD
Thank you :)
it's awesome.
I can't even draw the SHAPE of a human body LOL ;8 .
Why thank you, HolyQ :D
Good but sorta doesn't look RTP-ish, still good >:X 10/10
1) it need's more shading
*the hair needs a bit of work
*the body is way flat
2)dont use brush on your small pixel arts
3)its a bit messy try tunnin her up
4)thats 8.5/10 for your first sprite a job well done.
My only real issue is the hair, the outline has too much contrast while the rest of the picture doesn't.

Yeah I know I need more shade, but I suck horribly at it :-\ and what do you mean by brush?
Wait, did you make it with MS paint? shading will be a hard job then.
Still it's good for the first time, and don't tell me it's hand-mouse, you'll surprise me.

no wories youll get better, you have talent that i could see. brush and pencil you know the tools =)
1) for easier shading and you need free software to do it. unless you have photoshop already try this.
Graphics Gale and Paint.Net =) their both free.
2) imagine where the light is hitting the sprite from there on. focus on where you shadow would fall.

I still have trouble with the Gradient... :-\
That is very good for you first sprite. How long did it take you?
I did on more than a day, but all that time put together would be approximately 10 hours.
it's pretty good for a first try :D

whats wrong with that? O_O It's all I ever use >_> well, I'm stupid I guess :tpg:
and dam, ten hours, thats how long it took to make my DA id! O_O well, you'll get better, so keep practicing.
as for the shading, hair is difficult in most cases, so just try pillow shading first, and then add in the strokes. It's not the more professional look, but it'll give it an better edge.
also, you might want to do something about the head placement, in the last frames of the side veiw, her heads dips to much, and the back veiws, her head is places a pixel to far t the left, also, fix her chin, your leaving it open to wide. bend it up at the end of the chin. I'd show you what I mean, but you uploaded an jpeg v.v
oh, btw, the art is by hot toke, I checked up since you didn't know who to credit.
she's very good too, thats one of her more recent characters.

she's pretty well known, and is very famous for all her works for 2K3, you've probably seen her pics lots of times, heres some of her works for reference.

Wow, thanks alot! :)
Well you still can do shading with MS paint but it takes a looong time to finished it. Not to mention the limited tools.
For a faster result with hand-mouse, I prefer using Corel DrawX3. The curve tool is easy to handle and it's only takes less than two hour for me to make my battler. Last, I'm using photoshop for a little touch.
But since my pen tablet is fixed, I only need photoshop. See my av? that only an hour work.
You can see the lighting on her hair, it shows where the light came from.
Meh I geuss it is okay for yours first try...
The outline of the hair is too dark, makes it look like the hair is a wig maybe...
The legs look too straight and plain, some shading is needed there to add teh effect of knees...
In the batller the girls drees is longer, not a mini skirt but its below the knees can blame you though coz your sprite doesnt have knees...
The Dress IS black, but the sprite version is too dark, it needs a bit lighter colour, maybe a dark grey so you can add some detail to make it look more defined...
the bow on the top row of the sprites is good, its like the right size and shape, but it looks like you got lazy on the other rows as it looks like a basic bow, keep the consistancy up throughout the sprite...
I cannot see hands on the sprite, make sure the skin colour is clearly defined, it may be too light...
Final and most important...
Make the backround one colour, I know its probably like that coz of the format you saved it as, be careful about that coz it just adds more work to spriting...
WOW that was a big comment from me, sorry bout it being soo negative I was just giving advice though...
But keep trying, after a bit more practice you could definatly improve ;D
Well thats my Resource comments over for another 3 months maybe.
Thanks for the advice-z... yeah the girl has a really light skin tone, which is why you can't see the knees... :-\
But still a wee bit of shading to show leg detail is needed...
Heh, that's good for your first sprite...better then the crappy first sprite I made. Anyways, work on shading, and that'll be great.
How's this for shading?
good.
Don't take this as a flame, i'm just giving suggestions. I like the sprite, but i think there are some touches that could make it better is all......
Put some (just a wee teeny bit) of shading on the hair above the shine-line that runs across it. If there's some shade around that part of the head sa well it will add some shape to it, instead of just a flat head.
Also, it may be intentional to a degree considering the character, but there may be not enough shading on the skn...super-pale even on shaded areas.
Not bad, I like it... keep up the good work. ;)
tyvm to all of you for your constructive advices and your positive critics! :D
