You have two options:
1. You can suck it up and fork over the $60 and feel good about it.
2. You can search RMRK or ask someone about a RMXP keygen.
But you cant ask in here. That's a no-no.

Converting to PK is easier than looking for an activation code.
Yes, but you have to be careful, as many scripts are written for the traditional non-pk version, thus you would be hard pressed to find a script, or would have to "fix" the script yourself.
It's easier, nevertheless.
And converting scripts like that are easier done than said.
Really, often times its done by adding a single line of the most basic and simple code. Past that you might have to delete 8 more, but that's simple.
Ah yes, I suppose you are correct.
Oh well... thus why I had to buy RMXP....
So in light of that, you should get PK if you can't honestly afford the real deal I suppose. Using keygens would be extremely risky and ill-advised.
