For example, using a program called AnimGet, you can (for example) rip sprites from Maple Story by capturing a tremendoua amount of screenshots and get the sprites needed per frame, then clean it up a bit to use it.

Whoops, wrong type of rip.

Midi rips uses a certain program to rip a midi from a game, which I don't know which or what.
It usually involves a simple process of "recording".

It's practically taking the MIDI music from a game or w/e.

If you heard it on tabit.net, it means that someone tabbed out a song by finding a midi file of it, importing it in a different notation program (one that imports midi files, unlike tabit), and then copying it note for note into tabit, instead of transcribing the song by ear like you're supposed to.

It mainly applies to videogame soundtracks.

That's why "midi rip" looks like such a bad word.

I've been accused of midi ripping on my tab for Scatman.

http://www.tabit.net/tabs/get.php/41902/0/Scatman%20%28Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop%29.tbt

When, in fact, I wrote that all out by ear and didn't "cheat." Basically, you know when you ripped and when you didn't, so if someone accuses you of ripping a tab you did on your own, then just take it as a compliment that you did some pretty awesome work.
