Title: [Visual] My very first siggy
Post by: BPKS0 on October 29, 2007, 01:21:44 AM
Well, I got tired of looking at all the cool siggys everyone has, so I decided to make one of my own. Tell me what you think (No flaming).

Niice. I think it looks great, really. The picture of Tifa (I think,) thecolors, everything. It all looks so smooth and soothing. Good job.

Criticism time.

To be honest, I really don't like it. The background is just bleh. Download a Photoshop trial or sumthin' and some grunge/abstract brushes and brush away. The colours are really, really ugly. I personally don't like that render because of the petals, they throw everything off. If your going to use a stock picture as your background, make sure it is a GOOD stock picture, find some tutorials for whatever editor you are using for blending.

The text really needs work aswell. I know people don't like to waste money on programs, I didn't buy Photoshop, so download a trial and find a keygen(preferably Paradoxs').

Also, how it fades from the water/white background to that deep blue squared background is bad. It looks sort of cool, but it's just bleh.

Going all proper on this from a design standard, I'm going to have to completely agree with Firerain. I don't feel any attachment from the back ground to the subject matter to the foreground. It is however a very nice first attempt, I've seen a lot worse and this is a better one. Photoshop is a great tool. I actually use the new CS3 programs.

Oh, as a side note: Typography in a piece shouldn't be a label it should be part of the piece. You should find a better type to use and somehow find a way to incorporate it without going to big and flamboyant. As it stands I'll say that a serif font type that has some aspect of calligraphy is a pretty good type choice. Maybe a heavier font type? You'll have to play around with it.  :)

Also, @ Firerain: Are you a graphic designer of some sort? You seem to know a lot about photoshop and design standards.

I do it in my spare time, I've been designing for a couple of years though.

Time to kinda grave dig my old topic ;s

I forgot to mention that I am color blind, so yea. Also I used photoshop to make this.

Anyone got a link to any good render sites so I can try again?

Considering you're color blind and it's still better than what I can do I have to give you immense props.

It's actually pretty nice for a starter, but my, it doesn't blend at all.
The text is merely plain.
And you simply put TIFA in the middle without doing anything interesting to modify her, like, saturate it, or something like that. She's just plainly like that, so it seemed completely PLAIN.

Sorry for being kinda rude...

I'd like to see your other tryouts though.
You want better renders? C'mon, make one by yourself, find scans and images then cut them with the lasso tool. That'll be a good practice.

(sorry, I kinda hate it when people just asking for RENDERS like that...)

Well I can suggest a good site, psdtuts (http://www.psdtuts.com) which is a good source of inspiration and design standards.
You definitely need to see good designs first to make a good design of your own.

Besides, I've known colorblind people do awesome designs better than normal people.
It is not a valid excuse for not being able to design properly.

So, get out there and DESIGN.

I never meant it as an excuse, but to explain my choices in color. What you see is something different than what I see.

Edit: before you say the site is wrong or whatever guys, I just did a test on my mom and the little things on the bottom right saying what the other people see are right.

Well get off my thread ^^

This was a topic for discussion on my first sig, not your ranting and raving about how tests are flaud.

Anyways, thanks for all the comments guys. I think I'll try another sig sooner or later, but I need some inspiration.

I don't think Levent is trying to be mean here.

I actually think he's trying to help.

I agree with you...

Levent is much experienced than you, BPKS0, and I think it's good that he wants to help you.

But anyway, we'll wait for your next sig.
