Title: Abandonware Gaming, History of Oldies.
Post by: Leventhan on September 28, 2007, 10:49:37 AM
Abandonware Gaming

I don't know if anyone is that old, when Commodore is still roaming and Amiga is still the hit. Well, if you did you'll be....what? 20-something? Oldies or old games are really a good way to research what factors are good in a game before making them, one of the dead genres are Adventure.

Here's some for taste; and my best 3 games.

Beneath a Steel Sky (http://www.reloaded.org/download/Beneath-Steel-Sky/18/)
A story set in the future, where, machines merge with living beings.

Flight of the Amazon Queen (http://www.reloaded.org/download/Flight-Amazon-Queen/27/)
Your plane fell into the Amazon jungle, meanwhile a mad scientist is transforming Amazon women into dinosaurs to rule the world?

UFO=Enemy Unknown (http://www.abandonia.com/games/38/download/UFOEnemyUnknown.htm)
Defend the Earth at all costs from aliens.
An excellent game.

Check 'em out.
They're really good.

Flight of the Amazon Queen was pretty bad when I played it.

Have you tried the other games?

Flight of the Amazon queen has some bad sides, especially the lame puns; but it's not that bad.

Did someone say abandonware? Welcome to hell.

____________________________________________
Quest for Glory I (remake) (http://www.divshare.com/download/2173789-952)
____________________________________________

Basically you play as some random fag who wants to
become a hero in a Germanish setting filled with castles
and guards with moustaches. It's a very nice game, I
strongly recommend it to you :3

____________________________________________
Quest for Glory III (http://www.divshare.com/download/2173853-e68)
____________________________________________

The third sequel in the QfG series, here you have been
summoned to Tarna (basically Africa) to help your liontaur
friends with their demon problems. This game is alot more
fun than the previous one.

____________________________________________
Laura Bow II: The Dagger of Amon Ra (http://www.divshare.com/download/2173903-b62)
____________________________________________

This game is about you, a girl who just finished college and
starts working as a journalist. Your first job is to do an article
about a stolen dagger, and while in the museum strange things
start to happen. My favorite one, since it's like an interactive
murder mystery.

____________________________________________
King's Quest I-VI (http://www.divshare.com/download/2174039-beb)
____________________________________________

(Uploading these one and one would have taken too much time
so I'll give them in a big bundle. I'm not sure if King's Quest VII is
abandonware so I won't be posting it.)

These games are, as the name implies, a king's quest. The first
game makes you the king, the other ones put you through hell
and back. I prefer Quest for Glory over these, but you can't complain
mir.

Awesome.

@Lara Crawft
I'll dl' Quest for Glory.
Awesome.
Hey, if you like adventure games you should go here (http://new.bigbluecup.com/games.php?category=102)

@Lord Dante
It means that Beneath a Steel Sky was once a commercial game; then once no one was interested to buy it anymore; they gave it for free now; starting 2003. It was made in 1994.

I dunno about Half-Life.

I am well aware of AGS, but there are only like a few good quality ones out there.

If anyone's interested, google for "5 days a stranger".

Sorry, but all the games in this thread fail when compared to...

Turok - Dinosaur Hunter
---------------
First and foremost, this game is gorgeous. Before I go rambling on about anything else, I'd like to tell you I was blown away by its looks. We're talking about year 1997 here, when mainstream graphics were around the quality of Blood. Yet here we have Turok, featuring sleek, sexy, and bootylicious 3D that you can savor, squeeze and writhe all over while screaming in ecstasy. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but since I'm a seasoned abandoneer, and I've gotten used to staring at the most grainy, hideous, and abysmal visuals ever, my eyes sighed with relief after encountering such smooth 3D. Well, now that has been dealt with, let us continue with the review.

I have it for N64, it's amazing, it's not too violent, and you can turn it down I think, plus, you can change the blood color to green!  ;8

LOL AMAZON TRAIL WAS AN AWESOME GAME.

MIGHTS AND MAGIC II

LOL, Mights and Magic was almost exactly like D&D, except you don't need friends that get incredibly pissed over trivial shit and leave mid game WHEN YOUR FUCKING DWARF WAS ABOUT TO DIE AND I COULDN'T HELP YOUR FUCKING HALF ELF BULLSHIT ASS. SO WHAT IF YOU WERE CAUGHT IN A SINK TRAP, I HAD 5 HP AND I WAS IN CLOSE COMBAT WITH A SKELETON GUARDIAN, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO!??!

Uhh...

Yeah.

LOL, so here's Ancient Evil.

So, like,

This is an awesome game. Like Diablo, but for cheap people.

Play it now.

Note: The game is not a DOS game. It will run under Windows XP with Windows 95 compatibility (right click on the executable and select 'properties'. Select the 'compatibility' tab, and choose 'Run in compatibility mode for... Windows 95').   (http://www.abandonia.com/games/254/download/AncientEvil.htm%20Note:%20The%20game%20is%20not%20a%20DOS%20game.%20It%20will%20run%20under%20Windows%20XP%20with%20Windows%2095%20compatibility%20(right%20click%20on%20the%20executable%20and%20select%20'properties'.%20Select%20the%20'compatibility'%20tab,%20and%20choose%20'Run%20in%20compatibility%20mode%20for...%20Windows%2095').)

Betrayal at Krondor

This game is EPIC WIN.

No doubt about it.

Avernum I-V (http://www.mininova.org/tor/350815)
____________________________________________

I would upload it but I don't have the keygens. It's as
oldstyle D&D that you can get. It's ok, but might not
qualify for everyone's high standards these days

Eye of the Beholder I, II & III (http://www.divshare.com/download/2192486-d52)
____________________________________________

Create 4 custom heroes, go save the world, etc.. Generic
dungeon crawler that is very addictive and good, not
recommended for those that get easily addicted to good
games I say (x

Conquest of the Longbow (http://www.divshare.com/download/2192598-55a)

Another adventure classic that is Robin Hood like. It's just
really guud so blah blah blah go download it and shit.

This is really a good game but I'm tired of typing. My fav
after Laura Bow.
