Title: Color depth [Resolved]
Post by: HowlingWinds on August 17, 2007, 03:55:24 AM
I was wondering what color depth I have to use in 2k3. I've managed to import things that are 256bit-map (or something close). Though I see PNG images being imported but when I make png stuff I get 'wrong color depth'. Can someone help me out on how to switch color depts? mainly on MS paint or using Gimp.

You need to use 8-bit (256) color depth.  When you import a pic into RPGM, it gives you the option to set a transparency color for the image.  That is why you see PNG images.  PNG supports transparency.  Don't try to import your own PNG's unless you've already set a transparency color for them.  Just go with bitmaps and let RPGM deal with the file types.

I made this vid a while ago for someone else with graphics issues, it might help.

Best viewed in Windows Media player in full-screen, as it is a full-screen capture.

Ah, that is so annoying. I try to use many resources in my games (mostly graphical resources) and when I download them and place them on my games, that error always comes up. Sometimes it dosen't, in a wierd way. It is so annoying though.   :(

When importing, ALWAYS make sure the color depth AND the image size (height and width) match the specifications found in RM's help files.  If either one is off, it will not import.  Though for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't import a bitmap monster graphic that is 8-bit and is half the h&w of the monster graphic limits...
