Title: RMXP sound bugged....
Post by: SiR_VaIlHoR on July 25, 2007, 11:15:41 PM
Hi :-)

Ok i explain my little problem. I have a good sound card (Sound Blaster Live 1024 Series) and when i play a song in rmxp it's not the same if i play the SAME song in winamp. The song looks better in winamp, i have record the two for you, you'll hear the difference i'm sure of that!
So, rmxp have a bad midi player?
Here the sample: www.wow-night-lords.com/screen/bug.zip
The first song is with RMXP the second with winamp 5.24
I think i will change all my midi yo wave and after to Mp3... :-\

Midi's just sound bad on RMXP. Sometimes the RTP midis even screw up. Thats why I never use them.
There's really no script or patch or anything of the sort to fix it.

It's the same for ogg and mp3 for the quality but mp3 takes more disc space than ogg.

RMXP have a rather crappy midi synthesizer or soundfont. I can't really say which, I just know it doesn't use the system default.
If you plan on converting your midis to mp3/ogg I suggest you use a software synthesizer and an awesome soundfont like the Crisis (http://www.bismutnetwork.com/) one.
It can make the midi sound much better.
I don't know much about the actually encoding/conversion or whatever it is called. I know Silverline does.
You could pm him if you are unsure or need advise ^_^

yeah, RMXP just uses different instruments that a MIDI player like 2k3, and sometimes doesn't use an instrument at all. Some songs actually sound better to me, like Repeating Battle from 2k...3? might be 2k, but still...others may just be a beat drum cause all the instruments are being ignored...

u know, rather than converting or anything like that, u should probably use Audacity's record while playing the song to "re-record it." This'll make sure your new track has 100% of its original quality, and then u can just export as MP3.

pm if u have troubles or ?'s about audacity.

I have uploaded different version of the an rtp midi.
One recorded with rmxp
One recorded with winamp
And one recorded with a software synthesize using the crisis soundfont. It could have been better had I spent some time choosing proper instruments, but whatever.
