Title: Guess what I saw in Japan?
Post by: Leeroy_Jenkins on February 25, 2006, 01:57:12 PM
Okay, so I know you can legally sell games you made in RPG maker (if you buy it), but I'd never actually heard of anyone buying one. But I was in Japan a few weeks ago, and I was at a 100 yen store (basically a dollar store). They had a whole section of PC games, and so I went to check them out. To my surprise, every last one of them had been made with RPG Maker 2000, 2003, or XP. Even more unusuall, they almost all used RTP graphics. They sold for about 550 yen... around 5 bucks. I would've bought some but I didn't have any yen at the time and I can't read japanese.

Wow that is pretty cool ya know, It's like getting ready for the real video game industry. You make your games get money for it. And get some fans you know.

Man I wish there was a store like that around here. So then when I was done with my RPG Game I'd put it in the stores. Maybe even a Demo ... There lucky.

They might not be "Lucky".
You have to remember, all the rpg makers were made in Japan and are 10 times as popular in Japan. Anime is 10 times as popular in Japan.
RPG maker, I'm guessing, is as common in Japan as anime is in America.
Hey, Leeroy, are you staying this time?

That's actually very interesting. Too bad you didn't get any. I wonder if any were any good, or if the games were made by a monkey with a keyboard.

Then again, enough monkeys typing on keyboards long enough would produce the works of Shakespeare...... in C++.

That's neat. Although I doubt any one would buy the games I made.
