Title: I know you guys are getting pissed, but....
Post by: Squall420 on February 16, 2006, 06:37:04 AM
Hey sorry to be a newbie pain in the ass, but im trying to figure shit out and I need some help.  First off, I downloaded RPGMXP like you guys told me to.  Only problem is its telling me its a 30 day trial, how do i get around that.  Also I could use some help with learning how to start off with a animation and a certain party that i will wanna change basically immediately.  Also, is it possible to start off with a different character than the main character and then switch main characters?  Thankls for the patience/help guys

I don't have time right now to answer all of your questions, but I'll answer a few:

Quote from: Squall420Only problem is its telling me its a 30 day trial, how do i get around that.

You downloaded the trial version, thus it's a limited-time thing. Either:
a.) Download the illegal version. (Which is illegal)
b.) Reset your computer's clock after 30 days (Which is illegal too, but not as illegal I guess.)
c.) Buy the full version for $60 American.

Yes, go to "Database" (F8), and the System Tab. You can choose who the starting party is there. To switch characters, just use the "Change Party" event, in the event layer, by making an event command.

Hey, thanks man.  I guess my questions now would be:

A.) Where can I download the full version (I also read somewhere about cracks, is there such a thing for RPGMXP?)

B.) How do I make a map with multiple chip sets?  Is this possible?

and finally....

C.) How do I make animations/movies where the characters will walk around and do shit

A.) Cracks are illegal, just as downloading a hacked version of XP

B.) Make multiple minimaps, then link them using teleport events

C.) Clickity Click Click

A. Download this its a rip off of XP maker pretty much...(it on the Home page of this site)
http://www.crankeye.com/files/RPG%20Maker%20XP%20v1.01%20-%20Postality%20Knights%20Edition%20v2.0%20ENHANCED.zip

B. Do a search for fused interior and exterior tile sets and import them in... or export the tile sets you want to merge, merge them in photoshop then import them back in again...

C. See this video Tutorial http://files.filefront.com/Cutswmv/;4313526;;/fileinfo.html

You know, after you resolve your issue with either buying the legal version or getting the PK Knights,i suggest you dont start making a game right off the spot.If this is your very first time with an RPG Maker, you should play with it first.I mean just start making stuff that you don't even know what it is,this way you'll start seeing what it does, and your understanding of things will grow. Also, read the forums, start looking for stuff that you think sounds interesting and start trying to do it in your own RPG Maker to see if you can do it.Look around for diverse tutorials and stuff and in no time you'll be able to answer the questions you made. 8)

Title: Switches and Choices...
Post by: Squall420 on February 17, 2006, 12:26:19 AM
Hey i'm a lil confused about the whole switches deal and how to follow up with choices.  I obviously know how to set the choices, but how do you make each choice do what you want?  Also... I have a shopkeeper behind a long counter, I have him walking back and forth like hes doing things.  Obviously my character cannot touch the shopkeeper directly due to the counter.  Is there anyway to have the shop event follow the shopkeepers movements but alongside the outer exterior of the counter so my character can trigger the shop event?

Hey, I figured out the whole choices thing.  Still need help with the outher stuff.  Oh also, if i want my character to controll a boat through the water how do I make it so the boat can move through the water?

Go to the database and set the counter tile to the "Counter" Passability. This way you can access events across from that tile.

Put the boat's starting position on the water, and then get in it.  :?

Dude, first off... When I check off switch it automatically says it's ON I cannot find any command that would turn it off so even though i'm sure it is a simple task once you know how to do it, its not as easy as your making it sound.  I have an automatic event on a map that I only want to happen once.  Even though "erase event" is the last command in the event it still starts over every time i come back to that map.  So i'm assuming i need to add a switch to it.  You guys have to chill out a lil, rpgmaker isnt something your born knowing how to do.

Well, the thing people in this forum get mad about is that most users dont search around first. And then they have to answer the same question over and over.
I'm not going to search for you,but i am sure there are a dozen topics about switches on this forum...
If you want to turn an event permanently off, instead of using erase event do this:
Have your event do whatever you want and at the end use a local switch operation.Turn local switch A on.Make a second page on that same event, and use a precondition:Local switch A is on.Leave the page blank, and your event will be erased for good.
