Title: I am amused at another forum
Post by: maia on April 23, 2007, 02:07:16 AM
I have recently joined another popular (crappy) game making forum. No one knows me. So I posted all of my games in different topics. Keep in mind, no one knows me.

I get replies to my games...

Why are you making so many games??!! AND TOPICS??!!??!!

Wow, another one? It's amazing how fast can you make games.

I have a feeling that these aren't worth downloading.

Now its my turn to respond:

Golly thanks for the pleasant welcome to the forum.

I was amused at how anti social they were right off the bat :-)

A lot of forums can be quite hostile to new members =\

I know I am.  ;8

I will PM the link. I don't want to give them the dignity of having me plug their forum.

This is the best forum I have found for RPG making... Every one on here is cool.

I like it here best. I sometimes leech off hbgames.org but I like it here, just like how I'd rather Canberra than Sydney. Sure Sydney has more Asian people (I can walk up to a random and say hi in Chinese and I know they will reply fluently and think I'm crazy) and has more events and people but Canberra just has a feeling of 'home'  ;8

PM me the link too. I seriously seriously won't go and fuck up their forums. SERIOUSLY.

Also, forums have this thing that new members and noobs. (AHEM I GOT THE SAME THING BY SILVER AHEM), you just gotta show them that you aren't a noob. Everyone has their ways, some attack and some just do mind tricks and all.

As in strategy.

Anyways, pm the link plz ^^;

... I'm guessing you posted more than one game. I think that seeing a couple of games released within a day means that they were all made a long time before... I bet some dude that people know said that (that the games were made quick) so everyone agreed. >_>

Lol, sorry Maia, but I have to say: It's GamingW. I like the last thing you said there, Maia. Lol. Petty...

LOL. GamingW? My friend told me that place has good games... That must be all they have >_> Nothing between the ears, I suppose.

Nope. Not like here AT ALL. I'd choose Crankeye over GamingW anyday =D

Then Crankeye. Also, sorry for going off-topic with your topic, Maia.

I didn't quite understand how my presentation of those three games sucked though. I offer far more depth than people normally include with their games.

No, they just think you spent little time because they all came out so quickly. Not thinking, of course.

The last post that was... post.

Sorry if I offended you, but look at it this way: someone nobody has seen or heard of before suddenly arrives and posts THREE "COMPLETE" RTP GAMES all within one day or so. On top of that, the way you present your character bios (the same way in each topic btw) is a little...sloppy looking.

It's the presentation that kills these things, and the fact that we have all seen this sort of thing a hundred times before.

Quote
And FYI, i've played these games and it's not like "Game made in 5 mins and it sux" it took the time and they're awsome.

Good. Great- but the presentation implies that they are shitty little games made in five minutes.

And the fact that someone joined up just to post a defense to their buddy sort of says a lot.

===========

As for my presentation, I copied and pasted my forum threads from here to there, so they are exactly the same... that and I do less work.

Ahh screw 'em. If they plat the games then they do: don't mind anything else. If your happy with the descriptions and stuff then leave it as it is.

I concur. If they're going to judge your games based on your presentation, that's just gay. Let them do what they want. If they play and enjoy it, great! If they don't play it, they suck.

I thought about asking their MOD to just remove my 3 games, but that might look even worse. It is funny that they said a friend of mine must have posted, cause someone registered. I really do not have friends, I am very ego centric... I just make games, I don't chat.

Yes and to think I do not even socialize to make the friends they claim I have. People are just nice enough to come out of the woodwork :-)

Yea, I saw all those games you posted. To be honest, I kind of thought the same. I mean, usually on that forum, people post their games in the 'Game and Demo' section for a while and people kind of get to know those games. But you posted 3 (finished) games, within a day or two, in the finished games section (its not nearly as active as Game and Demo, just thought I'd metion it). So people thought you kind of slapped together some games just to post them there, since yea, not many games DO get posted in that section.

I could see where they would think that, but yea it was ignorant of them to assume (but maybe it was becauseof the RTP usage). On a side note, I haven't tried any of them :-\.

Some members (myself included) went astray from your original topic, essentially forming two topics, so I separated the two.

Here's basically what I got from the topic on gamingworld.

Basically, Despain was saying that the presentation was poor, and it made him believe the game wasn't worth downloading.

Frankly, I agreed with him. After playing your Maia 2k7 game, I can see the presentation was lacking. A real message system to show face graphics would have been very nice. You seem to have used <> to explain every movement and such.  I didn't see any cutscenes in Maia 2k7 either. Everything between the characters was done with text boxes. Clearly, you focused on quantity instead of quality, something a lot of RPG makers here are guilty of.

Try not to take comments like this too harshly, use them to improve.

I did cut screens for Willa & Rott... no one really comments on cut screens. Ever.

About the presentation, I thought they meant how it was presented in the forums. I gave far more content / information in the forums than anyone else seems to.

Ah, I see what you mean. Despain was just being an ass about the topic style (which could have been better, but it wasn't bad by any means).
