Title: So I wanted to play an rpg...
Post by: Kashii on April 14, 2007, 08:28:36 PM
But I didn't want to play one that I already have..

My little sister wants to play a game with me and finish it before I go back to college... so we started FF9,,, however I wasnt able to hack it for long. Also she let the princess die when I went out of the room ( haha ) so we had to start over. That was the end for me.

Went to Gamestop and looked around... I picked up Xenosaga and Fire Emblem. Not very thrilled and I've turned down Xenosaga many times before. I got to the counter and asked if there was any good new rpgs. The kid told me there's some Pirates of the caribbean game and a Naruto one,,, I stared at him for a bit trying really hard not to laugh :(.

So I got them. I guess, and I started typing this as I load it,, and Xenosaga keeps freezing when I click name game. So now I have to go return it. @_@

So. Like. Why are there no good rpgs? I dont want to play silly DS versions. Perhaps I just need a good book. Suggestions?

Im guessing you have a PS2, but if you have a good up to date PC or Xbox360 you check out one the best elder Scrolls series titles "Oblivion"

if not you could get into the big MMORPGs like WoW or Guild Wars

Lol its the Elder Scrolls, not Morrowinds.

Well, RPG you say?

I am suggesting Phantasy Star Online 1 And 2 for gamecube, NOT 3, 3 sucks...

Xenosaga is good if you can stand long and complicated story that even involves religion.
I personally love it. <3 Xenosaga. Totally.

Star Ocean series is pretty fun too, especially the inventor system.
If you want the stoooooopid ones that can make you laugh all day, play Nippon Ichi's games: Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, etc. Phantom Brave is not so funny, I warn you. Makai Kingdom and Disgaea are the best for laughing.

Try Shining Force EXA. Its very good and if you do decide on playing it, prepare to see lag. Because sometimes there are a lot of monsters on the screen. If you don't like lag, then don't play Shining Force NEO (but EXA is better).

i wouldent call Disgaea stupid its actully one of the only games that i have actually been able to get my self to beat aside from FF7 and some others but i would suggest maybe legend of Dragoon its pretty fun sometimes pisses me off but thats just me. another game would be Gradia 2 that was a prtty good game to me...

=) Thanks for the suggestions so far!

RPG'S I played and like: All Final Fantasy except 10-2 and 11, Star Ocean 2 & 3, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Legends of Dragoon, Lunar, Grandia III

Really I'm looking for more RPG's like those but new-er =/ also I'm trying to play with my little sister so MMORPG's are not what I'm looking for.

WILD ARMS ALTER CODE F

my favorite rpg is Wild Arms, and the rest of them don't even compare to the awesomeness of the first. Alter Code F is a remake of the first, with better graphics, and INCREDIBLE score, and more fun all around. If you never play this game, you're missing out.

Suikoden V? I am quite fond of the suikoden series, but I don't know if it suits you and your sis's taste.

How about the 'Tales of' series? The latest being Tales of the Abyss.
I remembered you can actually have two players controlling in battle (with a pair of controllers of course).

The game is NOT stupid, read my sentence well.
I said it makes me laugh. Talk about idioms...

I agree, try the "Tales Of.." series. Wild Arms is also good, so is Kingdom Hearts. Also, Romancing SaGa is pretty good if you don't want a linear game in which holds your hand all the way through. Also, Dragon Quest VIII and others are also nice for games in which have gameplay from older games and times when the story was not all that mattered.

Post by: Dark_Koji on April 15, 2007, 02:41:53 PM
Yea, Romancing SaGa is very much a sandbox-style kind of game. But imo due to its open-ended nature, the storyline is kinda weak and any in-game character development is much worst off. But like Lavata mentioned, it breaks off from the typical linear routing, with tons of quests to complete.

Speaking of non-linear, there is also Steambot Chronicles for the PS2. It is more mecha action-adventure, but with fun stuff to do also e.g. music simulator abit like beatmania style.

I'm pretty sure that the obivious choice for a good RPG would be Final Fantasy XII. 8)

We started playing the Fire emblem game, It's freakig loling. :< Like omg wtf why does the red haird chick never get hurt and kills everything and everyone else just, sucks?

lol, I'm not. I'm old.  :'( Yes there was a Wild Arms anime, but it doesn't do the game justice. Like I said earlier, the only good one imo is the first one, and the remake: Alter Code F. But it is nearly perfect.

Wild Arms look like a good RPG, which is why I wish to play it. If I ever find a ROM of it then I'll be sure to try and download it.

I'm only 15 =\

The original Wild Arms is for PSX, and Alter Code F is for PS2. You can probably find isos of them, but I don't really know where to look besides torrents.

3 looked really bad, but I love Phantasy Star, it is the best game of it's kind, although, if you want a really fun one, I suggest you get Final Fantasy 4 I believe, best Final Fantasy Ever, also, if you want a fun, quick finish game, try Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, very very quick beat, and a tip for the final boss: use cure and he's dead in like one hit.
If you get a Wii, I believe the new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is going to be online, I think you should get that. FFCC rocked, so much fun. It is multi player, and very fun with multi player, but you need about over 100 dollars worth of stuff, let alone the game.
(GBA, plus GBA - GC Link cable. I wish I had two GBAs, because I have two link cables...)

Bainten Kaitos was said to be good, try that, and the Tales of ... is looking very good, I might have to go pick up a copy of Symphonia. 20$ is a fine deal for one of a kind game.

I'm pretty sure that it's OBVIOUSLY WRONG.
Ending sucks, character background sucks (*cough*Vaan*cough*).
The only thing I like from that game is AshexVaan pairing and VaanxLarsa pairing. Yaoi OMG.
Anyway... All the games mentioned before...
I agree with everyone. Especially for Wild Arms, Tales, and Mana series.
Legend of Mana... I can't forget how great it is...

If you don't mind a game that eventually gets hard as hell, try Front mission 4. Oh yeah, even though the online community of the game is practically dead, try Diablo 2. You can gte the battle chest for lik 20 bucks, so you get the game and the exspansion for cheap.

Diablo II rocks, I had almost a level 80 Necromancer with an army of skeletons, and stuff.

Some guy gave me a bunch of hacked relics in LOD and it gave 7+ to every skill. Although, it was sort of helpful, because I was beating the game in the final difficulty, is it Nightmare? Well, no matter, I beat it all.

Try Guild Wars, GW2 is coming out later 08 or 09, but GW is a very very fun online game, and it's more private, so less hackers, and the online play is free. I had a level 14 I think. Necromancer Monk, he rocked, although I lost my disc somewhere is storage..But I'm going to buy GW2, just because it has like two new races aside from Human, but I want the last expansion for GW, because it goes back to tyria, and the cher.

The final Diffuculty was Hell. Also I wasted about a year and a half of my life on Diablo 2. It's pretty much one of the best games I've ever played.

Also I thought of another decent RPG, people keep telling me MegaManX Command mission was excellent, I personally haven't played it, but the people who've mentioned it have god taste in games.

The Shadow Hearts series is pretty fun. If you like SRPGs like fire emblem you could look into pretty much any of the ps2 games by NIS. Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, etc. I started playing Valkyrie Profile 2 the other dau and found it entertaining. There are lots of good titles out there if you look for them.

I liked the first Shadow Hearts, but never played the others. I hear that From The New World is supposed to be great though.

I actually started playing D2 again at work since boredom there~ I was totally addicted to it years and years ago~ I'll get the wild arms game some time then, and play it without my sister since now I really don't have time to start a new one with her.

I'm actually only halfway done with Fire Emblem and it's turned out to be a good play. I reset it every time someone dies though making it longer then it should be. Some aspects of it urk me but every game has something that makes you twitch~

whut is this about si wii and ffcc O_O? Why would they make something so awsome sounding when I am about to leave the wii behind ... si cri
