Title: Torrents and speed
Post by: Blizzard on March 08, 2007, 04:05:25 PM
Since many of you most probably are using torrents, I guess many of you know the one or another hint how to speed up the download. Don't you hate it when like 10 seeds and 100 leechers online, but you have only crappy 5 kbps download rate?

Uh, you can't download faster than the sources can upload :/

You'll get higher priority if you upload more. Say if you're on a torrent and getting 20kb/s and you're limiting your upload on the torrent to something like 3kb/s, if you increase it to say 15kb/s, you might then download at 70/90kb/s etc. Just an example. Also use a decent torrent client that's able to communicate with other clients better and therefore makes you more likely to get peices: uTorrent (http://utorrent.com).

uTorrent is a must in that case. ;) I <3 that client. I've found somewhere an article where somebody posted that if you upload less than 50MB after you have downloaded something 100%, your next torrents will be faster. I'm pretty unlucky that I had to reinstall my Windoze, so I guess I've lost my "upload log". =/ I've uploaded at least 3 times the data I actually downloaded. :)
