Title: deleting an event permanently without switches/variables 2k3 [resolved]
Post by: Atracious on February 24, 2007, 06:48:20 AM
I would like to delete about 1000-2000 events individually as the user activates them...that is a lot of varables/switches and i am wondering if there is an easier way, if not please pm me saying so and i'll delete this topic.

edit:FINAL VERDICT: NO.

You can create something called a common event, using that just put in the common parts, and add the variables when you have placed the event.

If not just create the event on map, and copy and paste it with the parts that are the same through out all the events.

wouldn't a common event just run the same code multiple times?

and if i copy  and past won't it make all the copies go at the same time?

It won't either way. Common event will work upon the event that called it. For example if you use "(This Event) Face towards player", the calling event will do that. The save point event system in my game uses this as well and it worked fine with my in XP, so I see no reason why it shouldn't work in RM2k3.
As for the second method, you don't need it, you can use a common event. And no, activating one event and it's personal switch (I recommend using local switches, so you really can just copy-paste them) won't affect any others.

why not use 1 big variable called Switch.

lets say the first thing was a normal go and slay the dragon...after dragon is dead variable switch = 1..

in the event when variable switch = 1 it gets deleted...and then the next mission or w/e changes it to 2.

because they're not all going to be opened in a specific order....so that can't work.....unless i'm just not understanding it right.

Darnit your gaving me Headhakes! sorry for my first attempt i have not tryied to change between maps...

Ok i have try to simply move them away form the sight but they still come back after (could have save switch) then you always have the good old trick of using variable as precondition to save some switch but that still not what you were looking for.

Then i came with the same idea as Nouman but still your totaly right it would have to be linear on the chest picking whitch is totaly improbable...

So i'm still digging an idea to solve this and i'll get you back if i find something!

Thanks!

Ok i'M going to bed ! there is no humain way that i was able to find to "Delete" an Event.

Here some suggestion if you were really badly in lack of Switch.

1-Mostly everything can be done with Variable so if you have not use your 5000 yet, there is still hope that you can use them as switch.

2-If your again lacking more switch, i suggest you raise your item to 5000 then have all those you are not using to be added with the chest you are opening(leave it blank) and use the item held precursor as a switch.

3-Then again if you really are in search for each and every detail to upgrade have have more switch, then i totaly suggest that you go for a second opus of your first game doing a Chapiter like RPG with a Volume 2-3-4-5-6 and so on.

4-Then if your still lacking something...then i guess there isn't much more i can suggest to help ^-^

PS: I was about to getting freaking insane trying to find a new solution for this one ^-^ it's 3:32 in the morning and i wasnt able to go sleep as my brain was totaly focus on finding you a solution so here is my answer and hopefully, my salvation for the night ^-^ lololol

GOod luck!
