You're stuck there, and you're at the mercy of whatever IF wants you to do. A good example of contrast is this forum, which has moved location / server 3 times now. You wouldn't be able to customize anywhere near as much on there as RMRK's been customised. Look to the left of this post.
Plus, it's free, so it kinda says "hey, I don't care enough about this to pay anything for it =D"
