Title: Are you a data-paranoid?
Post by: Blizzard on January 07, 2007, 02:38:46 AM
Does it happen to you, too? You are tying something in Word and as soon as you finish the sentence, you automatically press CTRL+S to save? Same like that in other programs?
Or are you a calm guy? Not saving for half an hour is nothing to you.

I usually save very often. Mostly when I am taking a short break to sort my thoughts and continue with work. I surely save more often than every minute.

Discuss.

Every time I lift my hand off of my mouse or keyboard, I check then save. This is probably because I had Windows 98 for a very long time.

Same reason over here. Having Win98 for a year is a VERY long time. I've had it even longer than that...

On my old computer, I had windows 98 and it crashed less then the computer I have now, witch has XP, people make jokes about things crashing on it, but I played Diablo 2 on it with no worries, it never once crashed while I was playing it. I also used it to write, if I forgot to save my work, I would just open the Word processor and it would be there, and I never lost any data.

Most of the stuff I'm editing / writing nowadays is scripts, which I run on my own pc on a local server for testing. So most of my edits are one or two lines, then I HAVE to save it so I can go over to my server and load the script to test it. I must've saved the template files for the postbits for this forum hundreds of times before I reached the final versions =o

With word, I make it do that autosave thing every few minutes, which is pretty cool.

In firefox, if it crashes it'll have automatically saved my session for the next time I open it, so.

I think it's cool that FF added that feature like Opera already has. Maybe Micro$hit will be smart enough to add it in IE8 or something like that.

Dwarra!

I save pretty often, yes.

I think win 98 was alright, actually it was pretty good. (I am comparing it with Windows ME)

I do it every 5 minutes because I don't trust computers anymore. (-(-_-)-)
I've spent hours on something and had to start over again because of some unforseen, incredibly stupid, not even worth it error.

"Microsoft Word is having problems. It cannot detect what computer it is on. Microsoft needs to shut down THE ENTIRE SYSTEM BEYOTCH!"

The only time i save is when i'm done. Somwtimes i might save unless something bad will happen. Trust me. I had a long data i did. something happened to it. and i lost all my data i had.

I also make often backups. That has saved my butt more than once. For example I once deleted a battle background I made myself and didn't share it already... Luckily an older backup still had it. Phew...

If you are saving and during that process the PC crashes, some data can get corrupted and lost. Don't save every 10 seconds or something like that, lol!

I save, like, every 30 minutes, or when I finish, because my computer doesn't crash all that often.

But when I'm working with some kind of music program, like TabIt or Finale, I find myself saving compulsively, like every 10 seconds.

I mean, like, I'll even save when it's playing back, knowing full well that I didn't actually make any changes, since, you know, it's playing back. But I'll still be like "This is awesome! I love it! ctrl+s ctrl+s ctrl+s ctrl+s! YES! ctrl+s ctrl+s!!"

I think someone as OCD.... :o

Normally I don't save until i've finished and are going somewhere else. However, with RPGmaker, because I was constantly testing my events etc, it was saving every few seconds, then I'd go adjust something, test again...(five seconds and another save)...handy feature though. Until you forget to back up onto a second disk and format the machine... ;9

Depends. If I have finished a long winded paragraph, I save.

When Im spriting, whenever I do more than 3 actions (all ive got is paint), I save if its something I want. More or less, I copy text and such more than I save, since I make mistakes more than my computer crashes.

Lol, same over here! I do the same when working in FruityLoops or RPG Maker XP. Although when I work in Photoshop I save only about every 5 minutes.

Which file is it? Tell him to replace that file with an uncorrupte one from the System folder in the folder where RMXP is installed. If he's lucky, he will lose only one or a few files and not the whole game.

It says that when you open the "Game"   file.. =/

EDIT: Well i took a look at it and it was pretty much screwed for some reason i replaced the game with another
BUT now an other error occurred and i tryd to replace that too but after that another one came..  ::) ::)

It should say "Can't read actor file" or something like that.
You can also try replacing one file and if the error still comes, put it back, try another.
