Title: A Tale of Valor
Post by: Koblin CO on December 30, 2006, 12:33:19 AM
http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,10594.0.html Team Valor recruitment thread.

This topic is the introduction of my current project "A Tale of Valor" . I'm the writer/designer for this project. I'm also working with a friend of mine who isn't on this forum. I'm still working on the storyline, and i'l put up a short paragraph about it when i'm done. If you would like to help me with this project just PM me and tell what your good at. I'l put up some screenies when i get some.

Background Storyline:

... The heavens were in turmoil. The gods were fighting among themselves. The effects of their war were devastating, ravaging both the Lower and Higher planes. All communication was lost between Divine and men. The high priests grew corrupt and horded their tribute. The mighty Kings waged wars of their own without divine intervention. Horrid monsters appeared and ravaged the countryside. This continued for years. Rathu, god of the light, formed a treaty between gods. Rathu never wanting a war among the divinities, made them agree to seal their power into one human child. This child would grow and be their champion. The God's Champion would a tool of good and would maintain order in the world. When the time came they instilled their power into the human child. But they were betrayed. Azul the god of the dark tainted the child and deceived the other gods. The forges of his Capital burned and his armies moved out the following day. The world was yet again in peril...

Choices:

I'm working on a complex quest system that would allow you to choose your way of finishing a quest. I'l give an example:

One of the minor quests I may have the player do is to solve a mystery. A town you pass by has a serious gravedigging problem, but after studying the graves that were dug up you think otherwise. Your party-members suspect that it's actually necromancy thats causing the problem. As the quest progresses you discover that while it was necromancy that reanimated the dead of the village, the "necromancer" is just a young woman who is possesased by evil spirits. Obviously, this is a problem. You have the choice to attack her directly, killing her and stopping the reanimated dead, or find a way to exorcise the spirits from her.

These choices won't have an effect on the ending of the game or anything major like that, this isn't an alignment system. It's just a way of making this game a more interesting experience and to increse replayabliity.

Removed: I'm going to implement this in another project I may work on in the future.

Reason:You play as a soldier in the Afranian Militia. And you have important orders to carry out, because of this i'm gonna remove most of the quests that don't progress the storyline that i had planned. Example: The Necromancer's Quest I told you about.

Don't worry though! This will still be implemented into a future project!

It's actually pretty difficult to get it off the ground. :-\
My partner is not what I'd call reliable.

As for advices, I only have one for ya atm. Before getting a team, you should probably get things started. After the fundations are ready, and you still feel comfortable, then start getting a team if you wish.  :)

Could you define "foundations" for me. In terms of XP atleast. As in a database? A finished stroyline? I'm a bit confused.

As in made some progression through the game already. Perhaps released a first demo of some sort. Although, it might be easier to learn in a team.

Basically, know yourself whats happening, then get people to do it for you. I'll help if you want. I can't do much graphically, but I've been told I'm good at events, I could help.

I could use someone who can event. ;D
The only reason I have my partner is because he can event and i can't.

My compliments on the maps. I think I read somewhere before that you're new to RMXP, and the maps are way better than most of the starters I've seen.  :)

That's because all the good ones have suicidal massochist authors that decide to stop working on the project half way through.
