Basically, I just want to see what everybody thinks is the best type of weapon in RPGs. You can say as many as you like, but give a reason. Even if it's just that it looks cool.
I think my favourite is probably a quarterstaff. There's something about bludgeoning that is a cool weapon type, and quarterstaffs can be light and have long range. Not as instantly damaging as a sword or other cutting weapon, and paractically useless against heavy armour, but still wicked in my opinion.
-
My favorite would obviously be the scythe. The main reasons is because of its history in use. The symbol of the grim reaper, that's mostly why I chose it. Also, the scythe is curved, sharp and wide-ranged. Even though the long-range is horrible, still very stealth type weapon. Could be used for quick and bloody attacks.
-
My favorite Classic RPG weapon would be the two-handed sword. Because I own a large sword in real and there is nothing like holding a 4ft long greatsword. Note: Classic RPG weapons to me are Swords, Lance/Spear, Bow, Staff.
My favorite New RPG Weapon would be either the Scythe or the Halberd. Scythe because of it's unique design and usage and the Halberd for its practicality. Halberd allows you to attack from a horse or from a greater distance than you would with a sword.
My favorite Modern RPG weapon would of course be the RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) I think that one should explain itself. ;D
That is all.
-
The gun.
Ranged weapons <3
-
My favorite type of RPG weapon is actually a gun. It's essential in almost any type of modern game, whether RPG or action, and when designed properly for a game, it can be both classy and badass. *thinks back happily to Balthier from FFXII*
-
For me, A Good weapon is an offensive weapon that breaks the heaviest defences & isn't heavy.
Maybe a double Edge sword, would take some time to master it in real life, & It's cool plus a great defence breaker.
But then agai I love a Katana, it's simplicity & having to use it either with 2 hand or one with using many techiques makes it cool =)
-
Those weird weapons the "Tales of" series' female leads keeps getting
-
well i have two the cain whip or (if any of you have read percy jackson and the olimpins) riptide a sword. well or a mondren day bow with limbs and evry thing but only if it is a recurve. (i am a JOAD (jonurier olimpic arthrey deveilopment) is why i am saying a bow)
-
For some reason, until now in my opinion the Best and Coolest RPG weapon I've ever seen is the Gun Blade (FF8 Series)
It's quite handful and powerful, through using Gun trigger to create explosion with each slash, and even the most powerful skill with the Lionheart ^-^
Moreover, bearing a Gun Blade makes you look handsome and kool, is it ? ;D
It seems to be a bit modern-taste, though.
-
I'm a sucker for the broadsword. It's classy; it's classic; it screams honor, truth and courage. How timeless are the pictures of the protagonist holding his sword to the sky, as the sun reflects off the tip? It's a beautiful thing. There's something to be said for it.
-
Swords. Three words: Control, Range, Power. Oh, and Swordchucks, yo! Uncontrolable, Devastating, and pretty much suicidal.

Balthier is awsum.
-
Whips are sexy, have a nice smacking sound, long reach, impossible to actually use without accidentally whipping your own guys and serve their purpose
/¯~~~~~~~~
-
Yes, but every other weapon might have a "misfire" of its own when you accidentaly use Lulu to cast Fire on Auron. ;-;
Anyways, swords for me. Sephiroth is, like, the most infamous badass where the trend of long silver hair and long-ass swords stem from.
-
Wh-what about. . . a paper fan. . . ? :(
-
Overall I favor, a Cross-Hilt Sword along with the Rapier. Though they look classy, you can't just go swinging it around like an idoit against an experienced fencer.
Second, would be a Pistol. Small and Deadly (RE4 Butterflygun is a good example)
Thirdly, Lances. Great range and looks good.
Fourth, Bow and Arrows. Whats not good about them? Long range aswell as close range (Lord of the rings) light and easy to carry around but still you can't juse fire them and expect to do something.
Fifth, Those giant swords (Claymore is a good example). Heavy looks bad ass will (Hopefully) break through a armored foe and up against a Rapier or something it should break right through it if it is heavy enough.
Six, Catapults they fire just about anything.
Seventh, A mace. Watch it smash your head in.
-
My favorite is the two swords used at once
cause they actually make's the character more focused and it makes him/her look coo ;Dl
-
And i guess my favorite weapon would either be a gun (like the ones balthier has) mainly for the range. Or a Katana for speed/awesome-sharpness :)

How you mean more focused?
-
I like beam rifles, but its annoying to get all the kinds of sprites i need for it :P but ya, mainly because its flashy.
-
My favorite weapons are spears. Many of my favorite RPG characters use them. Kain, Cid from FF7, Kimahri. Its hard to explain, but they're just awesome!
-
:zoid:
i really like scythes but you can never go wrong with the classic sword
-
All about the fists <3
Nothing says bad ass, like smashing your opponents head in with one well placed punch
-
Real men can take down any foe with their bear hands. Fists are the most bad ass weapon.
-

I agree, though I'm not much of a fan of the game.
However, my favorite weapon ever is a Spear. It's a simple, elegant weapon, and takes some real training to get any good with one.
-
Duel-wielded knives, like the lead character in Legend Of Mana.
Also: I always thought that the Atma Weapon was pretty sweet.
-
I think the gun blade was retarded. Pull the trigger for extra damage! It makes no sense.
Anyway, I like the quarterstaff most, as I have said, but my second favourite weapon is the Bow. Archers are really cool. Long distance and deadly

it's not supposed to be practical .-.
think about it though, it's a similar concept to sticking someone with a bayonet at the end of a rifle, and then shooting. Except slashing instead of stabbing.
-
It doesn't shoot anything though. Pulling the trigger just makes it vibrate ... as you are slashing someone. It makes a better dildo than it does a weapon.
-
Yeah, the gunblade is just a sonic blade. Raiden from MGS2 has one, as well. Sometimes they're called "vibroblades".
-
Swords that are bigger then the person wielding them. :3

Actually, I've read about what really happens or whats supposed to happen when the trigger is pulled. Ammo does go into the weapon and once the trigger is pulled the bullet flies out of a tiny hole near the tip of blade breaking into shrapnel causing, well, extra damage.
We all know that flying metal debris hurts! D:
Anyway, I'd have to say my favorite weapon would have to be the staff.
Ever since Suikoden, Tir and Freyjadour have been my favorite characters. Freyjadour wins a little more because of the fact that his weapon is a tri-nunchuku.
-
Source?
Squall's weapon is a gunblade, a sword using components of a revolver to send vibrations through the blade when triggered.
-
So you're saying that having the gunblade vibrate (and hence lacerate the flesh less cleanly, causing more tissue damage) doesn't make sense to you? Despite the fact you know exactly how it works? Erm?
Anyway, my favourite weapon from an RPG would have to be the RPG Launcher (lol, pun) Momo uses in Breath of Fire 3. Bazookas, fuck yeah!
-
Swords. Sleek, classy, popular because they have no flaws. You can pick one up and bash someone with it with little skill, or you can mince and can someone with some serious chopping skills. Everybodies best friend. And to be specific, rapier, you can't get sleeker or clasier than that. A charming weapon, roguish and deadly. What's not to love. Wait a second!!! CLAYMORE VS. RAPIER. Rapier wins in my opinion, claymore counts on a single swing winning. If that swing doesnt kill or maim the rapier wielder, game over buddy! ;D
-
well my favourite rpg weapon is heavy machinegun especially when its minigun and dual wield use like a crazy guy
-
Yeah, I remember that RPG where you dual-wielded miniguns.
-
I like claws. You know, the type that you can just wear and be like Wolverine and then tear apart your enemy's flesh. Fun.
-
call me old fashioned.. my fav rpg wep. (3 three letter long words in a row)
2 Handed sword. I have a passion for Power.. and there is no weapon that shows power like a 2 handed sword does. A heavy strong blade that requires strength to hold, Maturity to master and of course it can deal a great amount of damage even to the strongest of foes.
my second favourite weapon, The duel blade, Any variation from duel knives, to duel sabers. The fast agility of the wielder means the blades can do more damage in less time!

I think you mean "dual" blades, knives, and sabers. Dual means two. Duel means a showdown, usually to the death.
And 3 three letter long words in a row? 2 handed sword does not have three letters in each word. Hee hee, I'm just messin'.
This is spam, I guess. Sorry. Just remember: spam is quite tasty and should be enjoyed while it is there.
