Title: [Music] Fresh Beatz
Post by: Moss. on January 24, 2007, 09:36:26 PM
I finished a new beat.

SEE PAGE 3

:o

pls listen?

Also, is it just me, or is there no kick/bass drum in that midi file? It's in the TabIt file, and it's a big part of the song, but for some stupid reason it just doesn't come through when I listened to the midi. :O

UGH BEETS. Oh wait you meant music. This is very good, though not my personal taste. I really like the way it was composed, it's much better than anything I've done.

Also: am I the only one who can't stand the oboe voice thing? I always change the instrument.

Hum, that... oboe is it? well the lead melody's intrument is almost too much louder than the rest of the music's body. However its really nice!! In some areas its a bit choppy, though that could be my computer. ^^ I had to restart several times already.

Yeah, the Oboe is the vocal line. It sounds much better than the MIDI voice.

So yeah, that's why it's louder. It's the vocals.

Arrow, you are definitely one of the few who doesn't like the Oboe for a vocal instrument. =\

Well I usually just change it to an instrument that would be appropriate. Like for rock I would make it a guitar, or a classical piece I would make it a piano or a string instrument.

I think we can all agree Oboe for the voice track is better than something like the Synth Voice.

I never said I liked synth voice. Or synth vox. I just said I don't like the oboe voice. It's annoying and often times it feels out of place.

 :o It's a MIDI!

I absolutely suck at MIDI...

This was really funky.  :D The oboe felt so far out of place though, you used it as a 'vocal instrument'? I don't really know what you mean by that. But piano would've worked so well if it had a soft reverb on it, or... sometimes the Oboe does fit in. o_O

If it wasn't an oboe it'd be better. Just my thoughts.

Vocal instrument as in ...

... it's MIDI. There's no human voice instrument in MIDI. And I'm not going to record myself singing over it.

How is that hard to understand?

And most people would listen to a MIDI and imagine what it could be, rather than what it is right now.
I mean, like you said, it's a MIDI.

And piano wouldn't work. It doesn't have the sustain anywhere near that of the human voice.

Thanks! This will work great in some sort of snow town.

Meh I must be wierd: I LIKE synth vox and synth voice. But that's on my digital piano. Erm I could guess it sounds different in Midi format? I like Atmostphere and Star Theme too, now that I think about it. I'm a synthie person I guess.

Got any more songs? I should probably hunt everything down.

I was saying it'd be more suitable than an Oboe to fit in with that tune. I wasn't taking into account these "vocals".

EDIT:

This tune is so good it's inspired me to make a 'snow' type of song. Thanks Arlen.

Here's an MP3 of the song after I put it through reason.

And I don't think I'm done with this song. I showed it to my composition class today and they gave me some really great ideas. :O

Revanica: Feel free to browse around on my poorly designed website: http://ryanleber.com
It has most (but not all) of my music in various formats, where avaliable. Like MIDI, TabIt, Recorded MIDI playback, a few Reason-enhanced files (like the one I attached to this post), and some old recordings that really suck.

I don't understand. There's no oboe in the mp3 I made.

Silver: You did see that I made an mp3 of this song in Reason already, right?

edit: And you screwed up the bends in your ogg file, lol.

It's a synth voice.

It's nowhere near an oboe.

Yeah the synth I use most of the time works funny with bends, and I couldn't be bothered to edit all of yours to make them work ;9.

Some of my stuff played as midi though the MS Synth sounds hilarious because of say, a note that should be bending a half step up jumps a whole octave up ;8

Either way I like this =D

Hey!

I showed this track to my composition class, and they gave me some great ideas, so I re-worked it.

Here's the second version, which is think is twice as awesome.

TabIt (http://www.tabit.net/tabs/get.php/56638/0/Something%20In%20The%20Atmosphere%20-%2003%20-%20Snow%20That%20Doesn%27t%20Fall.tbt)
MIDI (http://ryanleber.com/content/music/midi/something_in_the_atmosphere/0x-snow_that_doesnt_fall.mid)

I commented in chat, but I'll say the same here.

To be honest I didn't notice that much different ;_; I should listen again to it~

I still like it, it's one of those things you could leave ona loop in the background and it wouldn't really get annoying :)

If you didn't notice, it means I was subtle enough and the overall feeling of the song that I was satisfied with is still in tact.

thx

I also, didnt find any difference in the two, maybe a slight change, but i forgot that too lol :-|. Okay, you modified your drums a little and added some twinkle or something right? And added some more of that obeo thing right?
IT ROX!
Anyways, i am seriously shocked how your class can give you tips, i mean this song is like, DAMN AWSOME.
I thought you come first in class or something :\
Title: Re: Fresh Beatz

Okay, here's what I did.

Toned down the melody in the verse.
Kicked up the second verse to give the song a better sense of movement.

And I completely changed the ending. Seriously, the last 10 seconds of the first version were completely removed, and the second chorus was moved to the end of the song, and the interlude (which was previously the outro) was moved to the middle.

lol
