Title: Paper Mario Pocket 2: Future Shock! Now Recruiting!
Post by: Teej on August 13, 2007, 05:25:30 PM
I have officially begun work on the sequel to Paper Mario Pocket. It took me awhile, but suddenly I feel inspired to work on it, what with Mario Galaxy and SSB Brawl to look forward to. This time I am definitely looking for help with the development phase. WAY too many bugs in the original, not to mention somewhat...poor mapping on my part. I am MUCH better at story development/script development. I am looking for people to aid in the following areas. If you want to test, please wait until we get to that phase. I know (hope) a lot of people will want to.

I need the following people to help:
Mapper(s): I need someone to map out the major areas of the game according to the script that I will write. The mapper(s) may also be asked to add events to their maps and insert text and actions as shown in my script.

Sprite Artist(s) (Create and edit): I need people to create custom sprites and edit current sprites for the game. The game takes place in the future Mushroom Kingdom, so naturally I will need a lot of help.

Scripter(s): I need someone to help with implementing and possibly creating scripts for the game. I know of most of the existing scripts I wish to use. The game will have Mario and Luigi as constant characters, as well as one party member slot to switch the additional members, allowing for three active battlers.

So that's the gist of it. I can do a lot of the major testing to make sure the game pans out as planned. But I will need a lot of help to make sure that the game turns out better than the first. If you are a fan of Mario and/or my original Paper Mario Pocket game, I would much appreciate your help in creating this game! Thanks!

Teej

*brings thread back to life*

I'd be more than happy to map and event. Your previous game was well designed when it came to the storyline, but the mapping wasn't so great. Mapping for Paper Mario Pocket 2 would be simply awesome.

The only work of mine that I could find. (http://mildgreen.com/users/irockman1/Stuff/map.jpg)

I also might be able to map, but I've never worked with mario tilesets before.

I think I have a few things that may be useful. I have a Donut Plains tileset with a couple of cool things on it that I could get to you. I also have alot of Mario character sets in SMRPG graphics style. My brother is really good at spriting but we are working on another project in Gamemaker right now, and we've pretty much decided that we're not going to use them for anything. At least not anytime soon. So I can send a few to you and you see if you like them.

Also, when we used RPG Maker Xp, I used the Cybersam CBS as well. However I made some major adjustments to it to suite our needs. It now allows for you to create weapons where the player does not go straight up to the enemy. For example, if you wanted a character to have a bow and arrow, you would change the code a bit for that weapon and the character will only move slightly forward and then shoot. For an example with a little more relevance, take Geno into consideration. For all of his attacks, he stands back and fires from a distance rather than running up to attack like the other characters. I also adjusted the character position and running code to make it isometric like SMRPG. However it is backwards isometric to SMRPG. But I can change that fairly easily. So if you want this version of the script and the battle graphics that I made for it just say so. I may take awhile to send them because I never finished all of them, so I might finish them if you want them. I already have Battle Graphics for Mario and Yoshi with a variety of attacks in SMRPG style. I intended to make Luigi next, but never got to it. So I'll do that as well if you want.

Something else that I have might be of use to you. I made a new CMS that looks just like the one from SMRPG. Sadly it too is not quite finished. I need to remake the item screen to look like SMRPG. But other than that, it's pretty much complete. I also have the "Switch" option integrated into the menu, so there would be no use for an item such as the "Party Poser SP" as I believe it was called. The menu supports up to four active party members and utilizes a large party script (not made by me) that allows for unlimited members, and to have characters that can not be switched (ex. Mario & Luigi).

If you want any of these things for PMP2, I'll be happy to finish and send them to you. This is pretty much all that I can offer though because as I stated above, my brother and I are working on another project, so I will not be able to script, sprite, or map for the project. Contact me if you're interested in anything and best of luck on the game.

The tileset I already have, but thanks. As for the CBS, I am definitely interested in the SMRPG one that you are working on! I did not want to use the Party Poser again... Let me know when it's done!

Ok sorry but you confused me a bit...is it the CBS or the CMS that you want? Because you wrote CBS but then you talked about the menu.

Oh, the custom Menu system. You integrated that into cybersam's battle system, right?

No the menu system is on it's own. It's the Main Menu when you press the X button on SMRPG. The battle system still runs like the RPG Maker battle system, it just looks like it isometrically. It doesn't have the 4 boxes for items, attack, special, and defend like on SMRPG. that would be out of my league. Sorry.

Ah. Okay. I do need a way to do partner changes within the battle, though. If anyone else can do that, or find it, I'd appreciate it.

As for the actual menu system, I'd definitely like to see it.

So eh, did I get the mapping/eventing position?

Sure. I just have to finish the script, and you can get started. Not sure how long it'll take, though, cause I'm trying to go to college and work as well.

Edit on 11/12/07

BTW, I still need a scripter and an artist. I will be overseeing the whole project and writing the script.
