Disclaimer
Spoiler for:
This was originally an entry for GIAW 9, however I had to drop out due to a lack of time (a wedding, health issues, exams, yadda yadda). Thus, it is a very simple premise with a simple system. Since my main project is very clearly anti-cliche, and I rant against teenage heroes, magical girls and mysterious magical hoodoo, I decided to make this game as full of cliches as possible, without being a spoof game. Think of it as a challenge for myself to see if I can make these overdone elements enjoyable. Though I missed the GIAW deadline, I still want to finish this (or at least get a full demo) by the time my trial period expires.

Story
Spoiler for:
In today's world, magic is an invaluable part of society. Mages, Shaman, Priests and Paladins are placed into well structured orders serving the good of mankind. However, long ago, magic was a wild force, difficult to harness and flowing unchecked throughout the world. The pioneers of today's magical orders mastered drawing this reckless magic out of the surroundings and sealing it away safely inside themselves, giving them great power and saving their kinsmen from the chaos of unchecked magical energies. They also passed these magics down to their children, allowing the craft to grow with each generation. No country today can exist without the support of the descendants of these magical founders.

In the great Magus Academy of Nendros, where thousands of young mages have studied, there is a girl of a peculiar line. Born to parents outside the lineage of mages, she none the less showed talent for magic at a young age. As is law, she was immediately brought under tutelage of the Magi at the academy. However, this young sorceress is terribly sporadic in her performance, sometimes able to cast spells of great power and difficulty, other times unable to muster even the simplest cantrip. But, in a strange twist of fate, she has set out on a mission to save magic as the world knows it, or perhaps restore a once lost order.

Characters

Valerie
A young sorceress in training. Her skills are mediocre at best, but rarely she achieves great feats of magical power. Eternally hard working and desperate to keep up with her classmates, she has a mental fortitude that seems at odds with her delicate and girly exterior. She makes friends easily, but is constantly concerned with how others see her. She is remarkably unique however, in that she naturally can sense magical energies without using any sort of detection spell. Her classmates have also noted how her mere presence in a collective spell circle makes casting easier and far more powerful.
Her advisor, Magi Bertram, suspects an ancient power may be at work within her, but his studies into this possibility were cut short when the academy was attacked by a mysterious general.

Connor
A young sell-sword who works along the eastern trade routes. He is a wanderer by nature, and funds his explorations by serving as guide and bodyguard to merchants, pilgrims and mages needing to cross wild territory. He comes to Valerie's aid when she is tasked to deliver Magi Bertram's research notes to his colleague in the Kendros Forest.

Edmund
A paladin with the Order of the Divine Shroud. They are tasked with defense of the country and aid in times of need, but often work under the order of the regent to investigate mages operating outside the realm of order. He encounters Valerie while investigating a magical disturbance at the stronghold of a mage whom ceased contact with the Order of Scepters many months prior.

Iseul
A scout working for the Temple of Gales. She aids the monks defending believers of the old ways on their pilgrimage. She also escorts the high priestess on her yearly journey to commune with the "ebbing of life". She is always on alert, and suspicious of any involvement of the Divine or Magical Orders within her people's province.

Phoebe
A priestess of the Gentle Hand, an order of divine magic users that melds some old ways in their practice. They are healers of mind and body, whose domain usually falls over the commoners. They are looked down upon by those in the Paladins and Clerics, for their practices also include pleasure as therapy and in healing. She is a calming presence, and a famous lush, but also fiercely protective of others. Her temper when dealing with officials and other Divine orders can get her in trouble.

Mirek
A noble-born mage of great pedigree. He is directly descended from Brughen, the founder of the Order of the Scepters. Though both skilled and of high birth, few of his colleagues wish to associate with him due to his snooty behavior, and he is not focusing on restoring the stronghold of his illustrious ancestor.

Your screens are wonderful! I look forward to updates on your progress.  Especially your world map.

Your house is different than what I'm used to seeing.  I like the effect though, it gives you more floor space.  Very nice.

Also, which of those two fonts will you land on? I prefer the second one.

I love the style you use for the interior mapping.  It's unique.  In fact, most of your mapping style looks wonderful.  Good job.  I'm looking forward to see what you do.
