A Maine man has been charged with 'Assault with Sandwich' in Dover, after he threw a deli sandwich at a store clerk back on October 17. Thomas Goulet, turned himself in to authorities this past weekend for alleged assault.

Assault with sandwich is not what one might consider a normal charge. Here is how we got to this point:

Apparently, Goulet, 44, walked into Duston's Bakery & Deli and ordered a few sandwiches. According to authorities, the clerk made Goulet's son's sandwich, but had questions about Goulet's order. When the clerk tried to ask Goulet about the sandwich, he was on the cell phone. She gave up, and passed the time, waiting for him to finish his call, by doing some other job functions.

Goulet, got off of the phone, and became very angry that his sandwich wasn't completed. He then went into a profanity laced tirade. Goulet then grabbed the completed sandwich intended for his son and threw it at the face of the clerk, striking her.

She was unhurt, and the entire incident was witnessed by another clerk and numerous other customers. Goulet stormed out of the deli before the police arrived. People on site did get his license plate number.

Thomas Goulet then compounded the situation when he was called by the local authorities. He apparently lied and said he didn't throw the sandwich.

He claims he was there, but was treated poorly by the clerk. He claims the other customers started to get on his case, and he decided to leave the deli.

Of, course there are several written statements that completely contradict Goulet, so the local authorities went forward with the "Assault with a Sandwich Charge."

"You don't have to hurt someone for it to be simple assault; it's unwanted physical contact," said Police Capt. Michael Raiche. "You just can't throw something at someone like that."

When did Goulet ever begin to believe that it was appropriate to be rudely on the cell phone while he was being served, curse at the store clerk for no reason, and then throw things at anyone, especially a deli employee? Perhaps they should sentence Goulet to having sandwiches thrown at him, there certainly are plenty of people who would hop in line.

Too bad it wasn't a real gun, I would have loved to see a bleeding hole in that tattooed chest of his.
