Title: Chaos Project - Final Demo Version: 1.2.0.0
Post by: Blizzard on December 02, 2006, 12:51:57 PM
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi67.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh316%2Fbblizzard%2FChaosLogo-1.png&hash=25eb7b5029a82de5733d41ce41c724e117c03e34)

First of all: Blizzard is my alias, not my company name! The "company" name, if you will, is StormTronics.

Little comment to the Enhanced Demo of this game: You think that was awesome?! Try this one!

Intro

"Once long time ago, everything was Chaos
Then Chaos became order
And Chaos became life
After life is gone and order is destroyed
Chaos shall reign again and forever..."

This is how everything starts.

Background story

Inside the legendary Tower of Memories, lies the Fire of Life....The eternal force that holds every single parallel universe together...
An old legend states that if the flame, the Fire of Life burns is to change into a color other than blue (Solar Cry) a horrible fate lies in store for the galaxy.
Two million years ago, the fire turned red... Nobody knew of this till it was almost too late. The flame changing color would have caused the destruction of all existence, had there not been two mysterious and powerful warriors. Nobody knew where they originated, nor where they were going.
But this was long ago... These two brave warriors, returned the flame to its original color. It is even said, that they were the reason for the Solar Cry... Thus all memories and records of this event were entirely wiped from existence... This is the reason, why the tower is called Tower of Memories...

Once again in the present the Solar Cry is about to occur. The consequences are sure to be fatal. However, this Solar Cry is different... The flame became green...
But because the Solar Cry is so powerful, what could surpass it's power, enough to make it happen? And more importantly...What is yet to happen, now the fire burns green? And so we go to the little planet Terra, where peace reigns... still...

This is a snipplet from the intro. Of course it is not possible to destroy every existance just by causing a SOlar Cry. There is much more behind this. But the rest of the background story will be revealed during the gameplay.

The adventure begins

Jason is 21 years old and a normal young man, who just lives his life. He's going to college and bored, because it seems too easy to him.
After a little nap and a strange dream he decides to leave the library of his college and go home. He has no idea what is going to happen to him... Suddenly he finds himself in a room, that actually looks like a part of the college, but it is none! Confused about all of this he continues his way through a dark passage. Suddenly he enters a strange hi-tech laboratory. He turns around and can't find the exit anymore.
Exploring the strange laboratory he gets attacked by machines a few times until he hears a voice shouting for help. Fast he can find a person who is fighting against a strange monster. After a victorious fight he learns the name of the stranger: Endout. But the monster doesn't seem to be beaten! And so they start running for their lives. They run back into the room where Jason entered the old laboratory. Endout activates a machine and both of them jump into it. In the next moment they find themselves in on a little field surrounded with trees in the middle of the night.
They arrived near the peaceful village Reeva. After finding out about the problems in the village and finding the key to the door that leads them further to the west to another village called Lisk they encounter a man who tells them about his youth. He tells them that they should seek out the spiritual being in the forest further to the west. After finding this spirit and defeating him in a fight he asks them: "Are you ready to follow your fate and fulfill your destiny? If so, go first north, then west. Find Giada castle and find your destiny..."

Will Jason and Endout continue their journey...? Yes, they will. But... They have no idea what fate has in store for them. They have no idea that they are about to experience the adventure of their lives and find out more about themselves than they ever imagined to. They have no idea what threat lurks in the deep darkness...

You will get the characters to know during gameplay, too, but I will introduce 3 of them to you who are playable in this demo, so you know what awaits you.

More background will be revealed later during gameplay.

Lilith

All the characters will change during gameplay. They won't see things as they did before beginning their adventure. They will become more experiences, they will find their true selves...

Features

Experience the story of the 4th part of the The Legend of Lexima series made with RPG Maker XP!

Everything else

The Final Demo does NOT support savegame update from the Enhanced Demo. Too many changings in the very system of the game made it nearly impossible to perform a bug and glitch free update so this feature has been left out in the Final Demo. Also DREAM makes savegame updates from versions without DREAM impossible. Therefore Final Demo and newer versions do not and will not support savegame updates from Enhanced Demo v1.4b or older, but savegame update from Final Demo will be available.

That's all. N-Joy! =D

Additional info

If you have any problems with puzzles or the game itself, post it here. This game is already known around and has been played by various people, so somebody should be able to help you if not me.
If you have problems with the font installer, extract the "Backups" file from the fonts folder and manually install the fonts into your %SYSTEMROOT%\Fonts folder. %SYSTEMROOT% is usually C:\WINNT or C:\WINDOWS.

EDIT: There occured a slight problem. A file is missing. Just download the file from the attachment, extract it and put it into the game's folder. Create a new folder "Graphics" and go inside, create another and name it "Characters". Put the file into "Characters". Done.
(You are free to use this file in your own game. If you do so, give me credit.)

Thanks for hosting, Leviyah! =D

EDIT:

Download the second attachment and extract it into the folder where the game itself is. The update 1.0.4.2 includes:

- 20% higher ability damage
- new Unity Force System (Party Attack); an NPC in Reeva can tell you more
- changed a few maps (Unknown Laboratory and Reeva caves) and updated a few others
- slight updates everywhere in the scripts
- potential glitches fixed
- Analyze ability removed from Jason's skills, talk to the rabbit in Reeva (this is the ACTUAL way how to get this ability)

EDIT:

Download the third attachment and extract it into the folder where the game itself is. Be sure to first extract 1.0.4.2 before updating to 1.0.5.0. The update 1.0.5.0 includes:

- removed all comments from the RTP scripts and decreased file size by 40kB (OMG 40kB!)
- enabled the version display again when loading a save game
- improved the intro scene
- changed the way target arrows are displayed during the fight when choosing enemies/heroes
- fixed the camera (works now again when enemies are being selected)
- fixed a possible glitch with the UF where UFs could appear mulitple times in the menu
- the merchant in Lisk was fixed (there was a problem with bribing him)
- updated a few maps
- changed battle transition processing

EDIT:

Download the third attachment and extract it into the folder where the game itself is. Be sure to first extract 1.0.5.0 before updating to 1.0.5.1. The update 1.0.5.1 includes:

- improved title screen appearance and added a horizontal scrolling menu
- fixed a bug in the update of 1.0.3.0
- fixed a bug in the update of 1.0.5.0

EDIT:

This update (1.2.0.0) will the last one for the Final Demo for now (except for maybe a bug/glitch fix). Download the new Chaos.rgssad and delete the Data and Graphics folders from the older updates.

Chaos.rgssad 1.2.0.0 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/yzjveq)

- changed the way text is faded in/out in an invisible message box
- changed the way "thoughts" are displayed in the message window (updated 170 maps for that)
- improved many maps
- added special "breaking map" transition when engaging into combat against bosses
- added status effect animation stack
- added a 4th Game Over Screen
- changed battle layout and menus
- changed "Defend" to "Defend/Cover" (you can defend yourself or cover an ally)
- added "Despair" as additional basic SR ability (doesn't consume SR)
- changed the way Meta is displayed
- added "Unity Force Overload" - use UFs at variating SR cost (ask the NPC in Reeva for more info, you can set it up in the Options Menu)
- CMS improved to StormTronics CMS 5.0c Hybrid Edition DX (this is a hybrid of Nemesis, Metal-Plate, etc., with an additional bar style and with an even more delagged Options Menu)
- the new CMS supports various display modes and now you can even use YOUR OWN wallpaper for the menu background (further below is written how)
- completely changed the way targeting arrows are displayed during the fight when choosing enemies/heroes
- fixed several glitches in eventing
- last, but not least: finally fixed Rivy's sprite and battler in the intro scene (Jason's dream at the beginning of the game) (~_~) (and also the trailer battle scene...)

How to put your own picture in the menu's background

Resize your picture to 640x480 and save it as .jpg or .png. Name it Custom_back1 and put it into the folder where the game is installed. From now on you can choose "Custom 1" in the "Menu Mode" Option within the Options Menu. For another background just do the same, but name it Custom_back2. Now you will have another option called "Custom 2" in the Options menu. There is no limit for custom backgrounds, you only have to make sure the numbers are going in order. i.e. The game won't recognize a Custom_back7 if there is no Custom_back6.
Also if you have a very bright background, the font will not be very readable, so if you have such a background, don't name it i.e. Custom_back3, but Custom_black3 and the game will use a black font.
For your own sake, don't use backgrounds with very high contrasted colors. Neither black nor white font will improve readablity of the menu in this case.
Example on correct named files:

Custom_back1.png   Custom_black2.jpg   Custom_back3.jpg

Only .pngs and .jpgs are supported, don't ask if other formats are supported.
This system has even a self protection against file deletion and supports new files automatically. i.e. You are in the Options Menu and add a file, it will be recognized as soon as you try to change the menu mode or re-enter the menu. If you delete a file, it will automatically reset to "Classic" to prevent a glitch or even crash.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ANYBODY WHO ALREADY PLAYED THROUGH THE DEMO

When you finish off the demo you get an extra option for a trailer fight. ;) You can play it without fearing it will affect your normal gameplay. In other words, it won't be saved, so don't be afraid to use up your items. Here is a screenshot of the battle and it also shows the new battle layout a little bit...

Credits

The credits are at the end of the demo and only pre-final.

Wow. This has to be one of, if not the best RMXP game I've played. it's so addicting and fun. I love the use of the battle cameras and all of that.

Amazing. By far the best presented RMXP game I've ever seen. Only thing I saw improvement for was the mapping.

Lol, you're one of the rare people who said it's too easy.

3 hours, 45 minutes, and 26 seconds.

O_o I need at least 5 hours if I do all the side-quests and minigames. O_o

Well I played it (for as far as I could) and I did enjoy it.

I'd like to point some things out though:

I think the hero moves too fast. Whenever I move it just feels kinda unnatural, maybe you should decrease movement speed one time and maybe make a sprint option if you really want him to go faster.
Secondly, the hero is well aware he's in a video game, and I never like that. It's more a personal taste though.
And third, the hero could just walk on the plants in the room south of the classroom...

Finally, the sprites don't entirely go along with the enemies. The green thing boss had a fatass sprite but in combat it was more of a thin creature.

Anyway, Jason and Endout ran away from him, I accessed the computer, but when I tried to go to the next screen I got a missing file error... Clicked it away too fast to see what it was, though.

That was the thing that was annoying me insanely in Dark Eternal. Adding a sprint option will mess up all of my cut scene that have movement involved.

Secondly, the hero is well aware he's in a video game, and I never like that. It's more a personal taste though.

Yes, it's more of a personal taste. They are NOT REALLY aware of the fact they are in a video game, it's just a joke along the way. There will be a few others, but not many.

And third, the hero could just walk on the plants in the room south of the classroom...

I can't believe I didn't fix that for the 371552723rd time. >.<

Finally, the sprites don't entirely go along with the enemies. The green thing boss had a fatass sprite but in combat it was more of a thin creature.

"Toon-sprites"; Jason and Endout have huge heads on the map, yet they don't in battle. Maybe I can find a more fitting sprite later. It's a demo after all.

Anyway, Jason and Endout ran away from him, I accessed the computer, but when I tried to go to the next screen I got a missing file error... Clicked it away too fast to see what it was, though.

*points to the end of the first post, quoted once and to the two posts of the people who already got the same error*

Well, I played some more, so I got some new comments for ya :-P

- The floating lights in the interiors look pretty weird
- When you go to a side room in the same map, the wall next to the passage is passable (you can walk below it)
- Maybe you wanna make some smaller sprites for the world map, it looks pretty weird with such big characters and such small icons
- The west cave is unnatural... The inside looks just like a straight passage, but the outside looks like the cave makes a bend...
- Try to find a way to make the battles intenser. At first, when you don't have any skills yet, it's just button bashing until the enemy dies, and when you do get some skills it takes a little longer to select a skill to finish the enemy off faster.
Give bosses some better skills too, and give them strengths and weaknesses. In addition, skills and SR skills seem to do only slightly more damage then normal attacks. For all bosses I used the same pattern: Uppercut, Kick, Uppercut, Kick, heal, heal, and over again till the boss died.

Well that's pretty much it, try to refrain from using RTP, and give away some more plot info... It's not always fun to hear "go there for answers", then when you finally get there you are sent to another place.

Positive things: Awesome graphics, nice job on those really. Especially the title screen, I enjoyed seeing it. Also nice dungeons. Although the graphics are RTP, the puzzles are funny to do. Also loved the music.

Well that's that, I didn't play everything since I couldn't solve the puzzle with "You'll find your answer between the L and the S" or something...

Anyway, good luck, keep it up, I'd like to see more of this.

Look up the book shelves. They are indexed by letters. You need to find the shelves with the letters L and S. At one there is a switch, at the other, there is a Phoenix Feather.

Floating lights? ?_? You mean inside the houses?

Walls: Yes, you are supposed to be able to walk "behind" a wall. If you're walking against a wall on the lower side, you should be able to go on tile behind it. That's usual for semi-bird-perpective.

World map: Usual in RPGs, play FF9 (Zidane is much bigger than he should be) or any other RPG with a world map. It's a style.

West cave: I might change it just for the same reason.

As for the variation in battles: I know, they are quite monotune so far, but it's just the beginning of an 20 hours long game. ;) I don't want to scare off player who just started. Getting different SR and skills will be later even more important.
You should get Rageful Blow for Endout soon. Also you haven't found out about Meta-Limit yet... ;) Actually you should have, because there is a boy in Lisk who tells you about it. ?_?

It's just like just: The main characters have no idea where to go or what to do. They actually would just roam around, so I had t make a few "directions" for the start of the game. Believe me, this will stop after Giada Castle. They will start to make their own decisions.

BTW, I didn't make the graphics, I got most of them from a site. :D I only made/edited a few. The second half of the game will have less RTP as it will be another planet. In comparison the Final Demo is only about 25% of the full game, lol!
Title: Re: Chaos Project - Final Demo v1.0c

Lol, you're one of the rare people who said it's too easy.

I've played RPG games for awhile and can beat them easily.

3 hours, 45 minutes, and 26 seconds.

O_o I need at least 5 hours if I do all the side-quests and minigames. O_o

it takes me that long to beat 25% of the game.

I never finished it yet....
Still, it's a great game. I love the use of scripts and everything. I also like the menu.

BUT...the maps could use some work. I know that I'm not the best map maker either...but still. Everything else is working out good, though =D.

I'm going to overdo many maps for the finished game. First I will finish it, let it get beta-tested, then fix the maps, probably another testing and then comes the release. But first I need to finish it... That might take some time as I never find the time to work on it... -_-

So far there is only one place where you can get the fourth part:
Go to the first post and download the demo. ;D

Part 1, 2 and 3 can be found here:

Nice. I'll wait as long as needed.
BTW: I recognize where the "dot" graphics are from. *cough*Chrono Trigger*cough*.

I can't beat that boss with 15k HP >.<

Lilith's spells have no effect.

The other 2 are very weak.

Maybe you should train the characters. The first boss with over 15k HP should be actually the marsh monster. I can't remember exactly, but I think Rayah has less than 15k. If you have level 13 you should have no problems with Rayah.

It says in the notepad file that comes with it how to sort that out. I have a problem:

When Jason and Endout use the computer and run from the monster, it says:

"Cannot find warppoint"

or something like that.

Have you tried the alternative link? I'll try it later.

@winged: It doesn't go over the beta. You play until the end of Vendetta. In 1.0.4.2 there is a new "party attack" system called Unity Force and the map in the Unknown Laboratory and the Reeva caves were changed. (The lab was changes quite a good part and the entire lab starts shaking before you run away from the monster.)

And the file missing in 1.0 is also included.

EDIT:

The speed problem was fixed (kinda). It should go smoothly again from tomorrow.

EDIT:

Wow! That's so cool, the music is awesome (especially that battle at the start) how on Earth do you make cutscenes like that, let only make battles you can watch? How did you make the fade in off different tiles when leaving the classroom. Awesome so far... you are excellent at mapping.

Thanks. :) I am trying hard. ;D
I got many songs from my ex-roommate, he is listening to Metal and similar. I've heard a few good songs and just thought "Damn, that would spice up the boss battles!". fter that I only used a wave editing program (Steinberg Wavelab) to cut the music, so it sounds good when looping.

BTW, I updated the version to 1.0.5.0. I am actually surprised that nobody so far has downloaded version 1.0.4.2. ?_?

Lol, just continue playing. When you reach Esteria and talk to that sailor in the upper left corner on the map, you will know what the woman is for. ;) It's a little side quest.
About the hooded man... Well... After the Great marsh you will "meet" him again. When you finally can leave the area around Lorence castle, you will notice that he's gone from Reeva. He's there more like a gag for the storyline. ;D When you play the game through and play it the next time, you will be like "Hey! It's him!"

...Finally! It's done. And yes, I see what you mean. It's amazingly incredible, every part of it. I like especially the scene in the intro where they're panning through the laboratory Jason finds later on, but everything is very well made.

I was at the ending of Giada Castle, but I decided to restart the game because Jason kept fainting before he escaped from the castle. He only had 25 HP left, you see, and he's not very fast or evasive by nature, anyways.

Post by: .:Pyroken Serafoculus:. on January 31, 2007, 12:14:58 PM
True. Just to help you get better, I'll say that the passage in the tunnel from Reeva to Lisk looks very tacky, especially when you go in the door on one side and reappear on the other side instantaneously. Why not make the smaller tunnel in the main tunnel passable, but always on top? It'll look like the player is going through the smaller tunnel.

I'm stuck at the matrix of switches in Lorence (?) Castle. I just can't figure out how to press all of them down. I'm a desperate cheater, but could someone help me?
Title: Re: Chaos Project - Final Demo Version: 1.0.5.1

You didn't download the updates. ;)

And that puzzle is just optional. If you can solve it, you get a Strength Ring.
Alright... how did it go again...?

Spoiler for Solution for the puzzle in Lorence Castle:
Here is a "picture" of the puzzle, press all the switches marked with X.

Code: [Select]
X X X O X O X

X O X X O X O

X O O X O O X

X O X X O X O

X X X O X O X

Since it's symetric you can also just:

Code: [Select]
X O X O X X X

O X O X X O X

X O O X O O X

O X O X X O X

X O X O X X X

Of course not. No self-respecting plotmaker, least of all Blizzard, would make something as anticlimactic as that. For that matter, you could add a bit more detail even to that, Blizzard. It just dsoesn't seem to amount up to the rest of the demo.

I consider the game split up in 2 main parts. The first part is actually roaming around trying to find a way home. As Winged once suggested I have made a cutscene when the part enters the Tower of Memories. Jason feels relief it's going to end soon, because this pointless roaming around was really annoying him. But at the top of the tower... heh, you'll have to wait for the full game to find out more. A grand conspiracy is going on. Leximus and Setzer, together with Siegfried and Duke were only able to stop Nemesis's men for a certain period of time. The second part takes the player deeper into the actual game and the actual "Legend of Lexima".
The player will find out about Chaos, Lexima (main background), the Chosen One and the War against the First Creation (TLoL 3), the inferior Lexima Warrior Vex/Vortex and his brother Blizzard (TLoL 2), some pieces about the Final War, the Lexima Warriors, Warriors of Death and Guardians of Chaos (plot in common). ;8 I reposted the topic about the main background for you if you're eager to read it, lol!

In other words: The first half of the game is just the warmup for a showdown of the superlative!

I just downloaded 1.2 last night
it's absolutely awesome.
the characters are good, the story is solid, and I love the ring menu for battle.
the only thing I can say that I don't like, is how many different styles all clash together.
RTP with Quasi-3d with Anime, it just looks really jumbled.
other than that, I was hoping for some original, un-liscenced music.

great though, I enjoyed playing it, and am going to continue later today.

also, if you haven't already, release the script for the battle cam please?! it's too damn good.

Yeah, I know about the graphic styles. =/ It annoys me as well. It's the only thing that actually prevents my game to be even more awesome. =/ The problem is that it would take too much time if I do it myself, since I don't have any graphical designers working for me.
I'll guess I'll just have to convince with many custom scripts, playability, story, (coming soon) awesome cutscenes and epic battles. =/ (lol, I'm flattering myself xD )

Thanks for reporting. Try deleting the Settings.bcx in the Saves folder and the game should install the needed fonts when running the first time.

@Blizzard: i was wondering how you got the screen to be black at the start....i've made a cutscene intro to my game and it flashes the map before it goes black. BTW i'm using Fog that is black.
Title: Re: Chaos Project - Final Demo Version: 1.2.0.0
Post by: Blizzard on March 02, 2007, 08:36:51 PM
Using a parallel process will tint the screen "before" you get into the map, while Auto-Start will tint it black after the fading screen. So, just use a parallel process.

I'm working on the second cutscene for my game...but i found a flaw, the player can move during it and mess it up. Is there a way to temporarily stop the player from moving when you press the arrow keys?

[Edit]NVM i figured it out...used a blank, invisible textbox :)

Either that or just use an additional auto-start for the actual cutscene. Make only the tint and maybe some other stuff in the parallel process.
Title: Quick Question for Blizzard
Post by: Korupt on March 07, 2007, 07:42:03 PM
Great agame Blizzard.  Just wanted to make sure that the last part I should have been able to play is when Jason goes out alone, and is on that ship.  Was also wondering if there will be more characters through the seconde half, although I liked the ones you gave, it always makes me feel better playing through an rpg, when you get to chose who is the winners on your team who just didn't make the cut ya know?

Second half? LOL! You've only played about 25% of the game so far. xD And of course there will be more characters. If you had read the posts earlier in this topic you would have found out that I am planning big stuff for the actual second half. ;8

Alrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright...

This here is a special cutscene and a MAJOR SPOILER. Note that the two additional characters in the party are just dummies.
Spoiler for:
Only that first character's name (Aiden) will appear in CP. That other guy's name might appear, but his spriteset and battler are from a boss in the game. In other words, the cutscene isn't 100% finished yet, maybe only 90%.

Return of a Lexima Warrior (http://www.sendspace.com/file/ofjea0)

BTW, I used a different title theme and a different title screen just for fun. ;) It also has the new game over screen.

:o That's ... One of the best things i've played... I was upset when the demo ended :(
How did you get the battlers all spaced out?? That's just what I want in my game...

...I played the demo... Didn't shock me the slightest. I'm a human, I guess before they happen. The cutscene in the game demo (Final Demo) showed two people. Both walking. Some guy comes in and soon goes to a fight. One is using a blade infused with his arm and another claws. As soon as I get Endout I completely know. Then I play this new cutscene demo. Finished my guess. I guessed right... :(

One question... how did you get just the instrumentals of those Children Of Bodom Songs?... I can't find any... :(

Those are no instrumentals... I cut the original songs and made them fit for looping.

Not much I could say that others haven't said; but this game was among the first (several months ago) that gave me some of the most crucial ideas and inspirations. :)

Spoiler for:
the cave west of reeva, there are 5 buttons and a hint saying "43125", i tried pushing the buttons left to right the exact number of times (if i got the clue right), but nothing happened, the passages are still blocked on the right part of the cave and theres no way to go to the other side of the water with the wall, help?!

Spoiler for:
It's not how often, it refers to the order. Press button 4 first, then 3, then 1, then 2, then 5

Blizzard has left RMRK. This topic should probably be locked since he isn't going to update it.

Any further questions about his project should go to http://z3.invisionfree.com/ChaosProject/index.php?showtopic=53
