Title: Fantasy Sword II
Post by: lost on November 28, 2006, 06:30:56 PM
FANTASY SWORD II [DEMO] (full version is $2)

The town is very quaint. The outside buildings are tiny and very Final Fantasy Legendish. However the interiors are absolutely huge the size of a full screen. There were a lot of details done to the town, but nothing else.

I was a little confused as to what the story was. Originally I believed it to be about finding the golden chicken. Instead it is about three brothers... I am not exactly clear on what they are trying to do. However the three meet a purified demon then go into a laberenth of a dungeon.

The dungeon is a maze because it was done via the RPG2K3 randomizer. I felt that it took LUCK for me to find the key to the boss. Then when I got to the door of the boss, that is when the boss or the guardian attacked me... before I was even in the door.

The enemies MUST be diversified. They don't need to be diversified they MUST! The enemies are very one dimensional and unbalanced. You are paid 315 GP for killing 3 scorpions on your way to the maze cave. However in the cave you are fighting single bat after single bat for 15 GP. The bat stands no chance against 4 people, it makes the battles annoying when there should be something interesting happening.

The boss or guardian I could not damage with anything but an axe. You may want to have the purified demon warn the three brothers that they will need better weapons before they take on the boss of the first dungeon.

Does this mean the maker should give up? Heck no. However the maker should keep these things in mind when making the next game. Enemy balance, enemy diversity, complexity of getting to mazes vs less complex mazes

In Fun:
1 star

In Challenge:
1 star in terms of enemy battles
2 stars in terms of maze dungeons

Mapping:
1 star

Overall:
1 star (out of 5)

NOT Worth a download at 22 MB
NOT Worth the price of the full version at $2

Sorry to be so honest about the review, but I think it will help you get better.

Another good idea is ask for a donation if people like the game. Have incentives like put a character or thank you or whatever in the game based on that person.

I am actually doing something like that for my next RPG!

If somebody donates, I will use a name generator to create a name based on that person, and that person will become an NPC in the game! I really need to get that PayPal button on my site... I am so lazy
