This isn't any less insulting or sexist than Silver's remark.  I think the way I do because I value human rights, not "because I'm a girl."


I would like to point out at this point that although I have the ability to delete Silverline's graphics, I have not done so.  This is because of another human right that I value: freedom of speech and expression.  Which brings up another topic...

Just as you can decide to flaunt your immaturity and lack of ethics, I can decide not to expose myself to it any longer.  Naphe voiced his decision by leaving the forum.  I'm considering doing the same, and have been for a very long time.  Perhaps Naphe's courage to speak up about it has inspired me to follow suit, now.  There are plenty of other RPG Maker related forums that I can join that will not insult me so blatantly.

This reminds me, quite alot, of the old argument about the "Babe Of The Day" feature crankeye.com used to have. Though unfortunately none of the regulars here, including yourself, were around for it. I actually joined after it'd finished, though read through it all. The argument was basically "IT'S DEGRADING/DEMORALIZED" vs. "OPEN YOUR EYES".

What would you feel you'd accomplish by leaving? I'm still not sure of it, but it seems one of the main reasons Naphe left is because of the small bouncing animation I made, where, sure enough, you could see (albeit low resolution) breasts. Is he that offended by partial nudity? Does he refuse to watch the discovery channel, lest there's a show on with footage from a culture or society where bare breasts are normal / even encouraged? Anyplace with enough activity and popularity, and you'll find this sort of thing. RMRK has definately grown hugely since I joined it. When I joined there were perhaps 10-20 new posts a day. Now there's a couple of hundred a day. When any community is still young and small, there simply isn't enough diversity and longevity among members nor regularity of posts for such things.

I'm guessing Naphe is also american.

Hm... a lot has happened while I was gone. I checked in once or twice, but didn't notice anything big like this.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I never saw whatever it was that caused the ruckus here, so I'm not sure if I should even state my opinion here, but then again, maybe I can shed a different light on this.

The fact of the matter is, there is always going to be people offended when material such as this is shown publicly. You yourself may not think there's anything wrong or offensive about it, but others may interpret it differently. Now, like I said I haven't seen whatever it was, so I can't say for myself if it was offensive or not, but I can say apparently it wasn't appropriate for younger members here, at the very least.

Now that I've started this post it's clear that I shouldn't get into it that much, not having been here from the beginning.

I will say, however, that I respect both Yossy and Silverline highly, and I understand each point they've made. They both have excellent arguments (Yes, even Yossy does, for those of you who would disagree) for their side. As Yossy said, removing the image would be in breech of freedom of speech, but likewise, as you know, nudity isn't as offensive in other countries such as England, as it is here in America. But you're not an idiot, you know that, and I know you know that. We could keep going all day about this, but we'll never get anywhere, and the only resolution, I think, is just for one person to give in, and apparently Silverline has maturely done so. (Not to imply you're immature Yossy).

Also, some people here need to lighten up - it is still possible to disagree with someone and still respect them.

Taking the fact that it is a nude person so lightly I suppose. There is something about that that is sort of...I dunno. Nudity evokes certain emotions, and to have it out in the open like that sort of takes away from those feelings. Maybe that is what she was saying?

That's kind of how I took it... although one could argue that paintings and sculptures of nudes shouldn't be in museums then either. Considering Yossy is an artist, that's where I get confused. I still think she has a valid reason, I just don't quite know what it is yet.

My thoughts as well, which is why I am asking. Perhaps she could explain to us what exactly is bothering her, since none of us seem to understand. Unfortunetly, she probably won't be back to answer untill tomorrow.

I don't want to have hard feelings against anyone here.  I was never angry at the fact that Silverline posted an image of a nude woman, and if that's what it sounded like in my previous posts, then I apologize for the confusion.  In my initial post, I stated that Naphe's reason for leaving was valid because he, personally, did not feel comfortable in a forum that does not censor nudity.  Now that I look back and review my first post, however, I can see how it was misinterpreted.  The "blatant disrespect" I referred to was not in the form of any suggestive image, but of the language used in this forum.  That Silverline immediately interpreted that I would be tolerant of male pornography was the spark that ignited the anger I revealed in my later posts, as that presumption was based solely upon the fact that I am female.  The whole "demoralization of society" bit was a sporadic and offhand comment, and I wish it hadn't recieved the attention that it did, because that is not the point that I was trying to get across.

Never once did I say that I blame the population of the forum collectively.  I don't even want to blame specific people, because it is becoming increasingly likely that it is simply ignorance of what can be considered offensive or not which causes disrespectful comments.  This was the case with Nightwolf, who assumed that the reason I didn't approve was "because I am a girl," which I have already commented on before so I'm not going to repeat myself here.

I am not nearly arrogant enough to presume that all disrespectful comments are targeted at myself, or even at women in general.  Countless times, intolerance has been prevailent in this forum, and that angers me more than anything.  Particular members of controversial sexual orientation are often the victims of such attacks.

It does mean a lot to me that you were still willing to hear my side, even asking that I clarify my point of view.

You know, my question was still never answered. Now I know what the whole event ISN'T about, but I thought that was pretty obvious to begin with. No one (specifically yossy) ever said exactly what was/is offensive. I'm still as confused as I was yesterday.

As for the whole intolerance thing around here.... I'd have to disagree. The only person particularly outspoken against homosexuality or anything around here is Tsuno, because of his religion(seems kinda hypocritical to me but okay). There are quite a few others around here are against it, but none of them are particularly vocal about it. If you were refering to when everyone harassed mental... well...  It's hard to say he was entirely undeserving of being flamed, but I don't think there was ever really a reason to bring sexuality into it.

I actually had no problem with Mental, other than the fact that he liked to whine constantly. Kind of like how I feel about DeathTrooper.

I found Mental to be more of an attention whore than be whiney. And this is coming from a user who eventually ended up respecting mental.

I feel the two traits often go hand in hand. Causing forum drama attracts a lot of attention.

But still my stance is Mental > Naphe.

I guess "indecent" would have been a better word choice than what I had said...  I was raised to be refined and ladylike, prideful of my etiquette and manners... it's just the way I am.  I can't help but be measurably peeved when someone oversteps those boundaries I was taught...  I was also taught compassion and tolerance, however, so I [usually] am able to keep my thoughts to myself, in order to avoid unnecessary conflict.
