OPENING STORY:
The young minotaur Gladeus is traveling through the Trader's Forest with his parents one morning when a group of traveling merchants, accompanied by a few 'shady' characters decides they wish to attack the minotaurs. Gladeus' father orders him to run away and hide. Doing as his father tells him, he runs and hides nearby, his parents still visible. What he sees next will haunt him the rest of his life.

CHARACTERS:

Gladeus

Gladeus is a Minotaur Warrior. At the beginning of the game, you get to choose which version of Gladeus you like to use. You can choose between Arms (using 2 handed weapons), Fury (dual wielding 1-handers) or Prot (sword and board). Each version has different skills and base stats.

Klaira

A young, elven woman who takes care of Gladeus and helps him learn the ways of the sword. She is a magician who can learn a vast array of spells throughout the game.

Kathleen

A cat girl, initially found in the Trader's Forest. She makes use of 1 handed swords and Fist weapons. Her skills are fairly similar to Fury Gladeus.

Claudia

Claudia is a Necromancer from the magical village of Spellus. She makes use of very powerful shadow magic and has a few DoTs as well.

FEATURES:

- Passive Skills.
- Weapon Unleashes
- Desperate Attacks
- Skill Augments (similar to glyphs on World of Warcraft)
- 9 Different, Unique "Rare" enemies to find and conquer, in addition to several challenging boss encounters
- 2nd Installment in the trilogy. If you haven't played the first, you can find it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/38b117okxf7qq6a/Legend_of_Zero.exe

was tossing around the idea of using WoW characters within a game with WoW-like abilities, maybe it's own unique story, I haven't found any decent minotaur/tauren sprites or any night/blood elf sprites, so idk.

as for story ideas? not really, I just finished my first game yesterday, so at the moment I don't really have much, that's why I came here to begin with, hahahahahahahahahahaha.

So pretty much anything would be cool. however I would like to try to get some nice sprites. I browsed google images and a few other sites for the last 3 - 5 hours with no luck! :(

yeah, same here if I could only get the damn sprites! I did find a minotaur sprite but I couldn't find any decent matching face graphics. so I might just end up scrapping the idea and coming up with something entirely new.

either way, does anyone have any cool ideas? (character(s), story, etc.)

Well then, I might as well throw out the first thing that pops in my head using your title as my inspiration.

Maybe you can tell a story about a homeless tauren that was abandoned and then grows up and joins the Thunderbluff army and gets strong and loyal enough to be the Commander of the army and kills a bunch of gnomes.

Although I do believe it will be hard to find a tauren faceset, so I'd recommend changing the race. Maybe making the first human horde or something.

I finally found a decent minotaur face to match the minotaur graphic I had. I'm not sure I wanna use all WoW places (awesome idea though, keep them coming), but maybe just a couple races at most, maybe a couple of the skills (in my first game I used a couple of the skills such as divine shield, last stand (but it just instantly full healed the user rather than granting 30% of their max health) and some rogue abilities for my assassin character)

I was thinking of adding maybe a blood elf and night elf and maybe a draenei or something. I gotta have at least 2 girls within the team, or at least I'd like to, of course if a good story comes along contrary to that idea, I may go without 2 girls in the team. at least 1 though, minimum! but yeah, I want to get a night elf or blood elf in there. (that is, if I am even to use a party at all, still considering the game to be played solo by minotaur guy)

It's gonna be hard to pull off a solo rpg where you play a warrior. Mainly because warriors don't usually have many skills besides from slashing and what not, which nearly removes the possibility of strategy in boss fights and fights in general. It's never fun to have fights were the tactic is press attack and drink potions until you win.

And then she raises him until he's an adult and he's like "i think it's time for me to go." "But why, young minotaur?" "I've got a wizard to kill." He turns around then crazy rock music plays and the game title blasts onto the screen all epic-like.

Just a suggestion.

lol, true, nice. nah, she raises him for a year then they take off. he's a little jew and doesn't wanna wait, he wants to get shit done. so he'll grow up during gameplay. first town "oh hey I'm 2 and retarded and need a bottle", third town "hey I'm 6 I play with legos and eat pizza" fifth town "I'm 10 and I like videogames", last town "I'm 21 I like plowing bitches, drinking alcohol and gay porn"

lol, but seriously, yeah, gameplay begins with him only being 2 - 3 years old.

It might be complicated if you have him change age several times because you will need a new sprite for each age and Minotaur sprites can be hard to find especially different aged ones that still match

lol, I didn't even use dragons in my first game, except as a randomly encountered enemy. In my first game, as well as this one, within every set of new enemies, there's a "rare enemy" that is extremely powerful (at least while you're the appropriate level for the area) that has a chance to drop a really good item or piece of gear, and gives a lot of experience and gold. typically, if you encounter one within the first few encounters of reaching a new area, it will give a full level. that is what I used a dragon for, as a rare encounter. the combat music also changes when you find a rare enemy.

There's 3 dragons in my game. I haven't actually made them yet, but I've got lore and battle sprites for them, I'll try to make it work.

I like the sound of that 'rare enemy' music, I'm using the same tactic except for when you find a Legendary Item. Can you show us a bit of what you've gotten so far? Like a character sheet?

I'm not sure how I could show you, but I have 3 copies of Gladeus, one for 2 handers, one for double 1 handers, and 1 for sword and board, each with different stats and level up skills, and then the elf girl is a mage. I'm thinking about adding more characters, but I haven't added anything else just yet.

yeah, the rare enemy music also varies by regions as to where you are in the game.

Actually, my world map music changed by area, as well as game progression also. there are 4 continents and as such, 4 sections of different world map themes.

I could just release what I have so far as a demo, the only problem is this game references the Legend of Zero, so if you were to play the demo, it'd give away some of what happens in the other game. Lol. It's coming (lol, I said coming) along pretty good so far though, I've added quite a bit since the other day when all I had was "the story of gladeus". I've got aboot an hour and a half of gameplay so far.

Something I would really like to do, does anyone know how I can make spells/abilities capable of critically hitting? be it through something within the maker already and/or a script?

Well, I downloaded the game. Here's that young feedback:

First off, I like the opening music, (and the Final Fantasy music later on) but the title screen could use a bit of work as the text is strange looking. It's cool how you still have the specializations at the start of the game (I'm sword and shield btw). Again, I was able to buy all the best items initially for my character, which isn't very cool, you should start off with little money and have the city be a significant spot to return to as you progress, not only does it increase the feel of immersion for the player, but you are challenged as well (not saying the game isn't challenging, as it surely can be) Another thing is that grinding shouldn't be a necessity, and it surely is at the start of the game, you encounter maybe two monsters on your way to the first village, and the monsters you have to fight in the forest are incredibly tough. I think you should let people ease into it a bit more. The mapping needs some work as well. Now, since this isn't just going to be me pointing out all the bad things of the game, there are plenty of good things. The fact that you're a minotaur and are faced by people who don't necessarily like you, it creates a cool story plot and shows great character development. The use of the larger equipment system is really cool as well (by that i mean having capes, 2 rings necklace etc.) The Night and Day system is a nice touch as well.

So, to sum it up, what you should really work on is mapping, difficulty and the title screen. You did a good job here.

Rep:

the fucked up text on title screen = gladeus is a child, children don't write very good, so it's supposed to look terrible

difficulty: I'm not going to lie, it's really tough, but if you pay the graveyard in the first town a visit at night, things will be a bit easier

the money thing is also intended, I do that on purpose because you don't start with anything and you have so many gear slots to fill. unless you grind a bit, you can't get full best in slot gear for both characters, you can barely get it all for 1.

but yeah, the difficulty could probably use a little work. to re-iterate what I said about the first game, I'm god awful with mapping, and I don't have a partner to make my games with, so I'm sort of SoL there.

I may drop the starting cash a bit, not 100% on anything yet, but that IS why it's a demo, haha

yeah man, I hear ya, I'm the same way with my gay porn.

but yeah, idk, I personally am fine with the beginning, starting with as much gold as you do, like I said I may nerf that down a bit, again this is only a demo. the beginning part, grinding, meh, you don't have to do it through the whole game, if anything, maybe just a few kills at the beginning. The title page, I'm 100% fine with how that looks, infact I actually designed it that way intentionally to look like shit, like I said, because it's intended to be the writing of a child.

yeah, idk, mapping will probably just take time. do you think using the random dungeon generator is a good idea for (as you have seen) most of my dungeons, or should I put more time into making them look like shit by designing them myself?

Spoiler for Big:

EMPTY!!!

The stamina HUD is blocking the gold window. I don't like this. I can fix it for you if you'd like.

There's a bit of a mix-up with the equipment window.

So incredibly empty.
Sorry if I've upset you. I know it seems shallow, but most people judge things by what they first see. So, make the start of your game as best you can.

yeha, I know, like I said before, I blow dick at map making, houses empty? meh, idc, houses don't serve any enormous purpose, though it would help if i wasn't so terrible at doing maps.

the equipment window is fine, the stamina window will only block the gold window for a couple seconds, then it goes away. if you really need to see how much gold you have, stop moving for 3 seconds

That being said, it's still bad for the game. If you see any errors, even minor errors, work to fix them: don't just say "nah, they can deal with it". Put effort into making your game the best it can be. And don't say "it's only a demo", because later on if you finish the game and its awesome, I probably won't get it because the demo was cobbled together. Don't rush yourself.

I myself, use the dungeon generator at times (mainly for dungeons not apart of the storyline), but of course using this doesn't mean you can completely leave it as is. You can change it up a bit by adding details to walls, floor variations when needed, lighting effects and adding your own style onto corridors that need a bit of work. Pacman is very good at catching errors, and puts a valid point, if something is reported to be 'undesirable' by a player, it's best to put a little time into fixing it.

meh, if you've ever played WoW, you know how Blizzard works. the first things you see are rarely the final. if you're basing everything off the first thing you see, I feel bad for you.

I'll have a look and see about the window, it's also kind of bugged me. there isn't really anything I can do about the maps myself, but yeah, we'll see, I'm sure that's probably just something that'll take time to get better at. I'll hopefully get better over time.

But yeah, lemme know if you find any other shit that should be fixed, shit that doesn't have to do with maps/lack of detail, etc.

I just checked my playtesting saved game files, and the equipment screen is correct for me (I made 1 save file for each version of Gladeus, for balance testing purposes), so I'm not sure how that happened for you, but I double-checked all 3 of them and it was correct for me.

As for your mapping, that's not really something you can get help for over the internet. Play some other RM games. Look around, see some well-made maps and learn from them. That's how I learnt. It actually gets quite easy once you get the hang of it.

perhaps. I'll take a look around.

but yeah, idk why the equipment screen is jerking off for you, was it just like that when you started? I can't even imagine what could be the problem, I double-checked all my equipment and everything is tagged correctly for the right slots, so I have no idea.

I suppose I'll see what I can do with maps. believe it or not, I was way the fuck worse at them when I started Legend of Zero.

I had maps that were like:
(- = grass _ = wall)
___________
--------------
___________

it was pretty fucking awful, I made a couple games in RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 and if you saw them you'd probably punch a baby. they were pretty god damn bad dude.

but yeah, my main concern is the storyline, I'd mainly like to know what people think of that. If I only had someone to work on the game with me that could do mapping, overall I think it could be a damn amazing game.

pacman, that error you found with the gear being in the wrong slots, a buddy of mine who's playing my other game said it happened in that one as well. the only real problem is that I can't seem to be able to get it to happen for me, so I can't really figure out what's causing it or how to remedy it.....

And in other news, I fixed a few minor bugs in the first game (although I don't intend to change it, as bad as it is, it IS my first game, I'm not going to go back and make it better or anything) so I'll be reuploading that and editing the post for that game. additionally, I went back through the existing maps within Legacy of a Warrior and added a bit more detail, I'll upload the new version and then lemme know what you think.

If necessary, I'd be willing to work with someone to have them do the mapping (I'll take care of the base setup and whatnot and they can add the details and shit and make it look good, and I'll do everything else). I want it to look good and be a good game, but I'm not really capable of making that visually appealing just yet. Additionally, it would help me learn simply by just comparing the 'before' and 'after' versions of the maps and seeing what was done, etc.
Any takers?

I updated the link in my earlier post to the demo, tell me if the maps look any better.

I changed the passing ability so you can't walk through flowers or mushrooms anymore, so that should fix it. I removed flowers and mushrooms from the ground where necessary.

I have played it and storyline is good there are only a few things I do not like and a few I really like,

Pros
-Stamina system is good because sometimes people dash the whole time and that is very unrealalistic
-Good Storyline

Cons
-Use of sounds from games (LoZ background in forest)
-Forest is to square to be a real forest nature is not symmetrical

Tips
-It is helpful to put a fence or a wall around a town or village so people know where the exit is but sometimes it looks bad. (Looks good in graveyard if had room to walk on outside of fence)  http://www.rpgrevolution.com/tutorial/rmvx-village-mapping-tutorial_48.html (Tutorial on this topic)
-Considering the elf is the more trained warrior I personally think she should start out slightly stronger.

I hope some of these things helped they where just some good and bad things I noticed

idk about "stronger", but she starts at level 5 rather than 1. I tried to figure a balance in there, but spirit doesn't seem to scale with spell damage as well as attack does, so it's hard to actually make her be more powerful without making all her spells overpowered at the beginning.

Any suggestions for that?

You could edit the 'Spirit F' for the skills, that way she'd do a bit more damage with the skills since she isn't level one and should have higher spirit than someone that was, making the normal base damage a bit higher.

yeah, I do that, but it's tough to balance, too low and she's underpowered, too high and it's overpowered. I could probably crank the values up a bit more, but I just don't want her to be 1shotting shit in beginning, which is what would pretty much be happening if I do it.

SEVERAL MAJOR UPDATES:

Added:
Passive Skills
Skill Augmentations
Chance-on-hit Effects

A lot more of the game has been added, if anyone is interested in playing an extended demo (about 12 hours), let me know. I estimate that the game is possibly about halfway done, maybe a little over half.

MAJOR UPDATES!!!!!

The game is finally nearing completion, it's been decided that this, in conjunction with the Legend of Zero, as well as my next project, are all going to be a complete Trilogy. The storyline really ramps up great in this one, and I plan to wrap it up in a nice, great way in my next project.

IF ANYONE SHOWS ANY INTEREST, OR ASKS, I WILL PUT UP A DEMO.

Spoiler for Thoughts while I'm playing:
This is really long opening. It's like reading a book.

I beginning to think this actually is.

Music seems good..... Woah that face is weird!

2000 gold? holly crap!

How the heck does she know that I'll let out a powerful attack?

Cool there's a stamina system.

The mapping could use some work.

Dang it, same old menu.

Gladeus looks like he wants to murder me.

Dang these thieves are strong.

Probably no need to heal Gladeus.

Crap he's dead.

How is a minotaur weaker then a mage?

Harmless???

A random forest, sure what the heck.

Plants on top of trees?

This music is way to peaceful, some fog or tint would be nice.

I like the skill system.

A burger? For the entire party? In a chest? In a forest?

Huh a ghost, like I said this forest is to peaceful.

Well I'm screwed.

Crap I died, and I didn't save for a long time. Well I'm gonna get something to eat.

lol, 2000 gold is a decent, fair enough. I was doing it with 1000 gold, but that didn't let you buy much. the enemies are supposed to be really strong until you've gotten into the town to buy gear. the minotaur is weaker than the mage because he's 2 years old.

Nothing to say about the maps, you're absolutely right. maps is my biggest weak point.

The mage lady knows stuff because she's smart and older than gladeus. Yeah, the lengthy opening is helpful, sets up the story for the game. Random forest? did you not read the intro? it's the trader forest, which is where his parents got facerolled.

Fog? please tell me how to do it, I want to get fog in a few areas, but I have no idea how to do it. And yeah man, haven't you ever had a huge burger before? come on now.

But overall, you like it?

Not bad, still needs some work. I started reading the opening but after a little while I started to just skip the stuff. As for fog you could get a fog script or simply use a picture. I uploaded the one I'm used in my last game. You have to set the opacity to something low.

yeah, the game gets a lot better later on, but yeah, make sure you check out everything. but yeah man, it's pretty cool. I'm really bad with visuals and stuff, my forte is more along the lines of the combat mechanics and stuff. there are 2 bosses available in that demo, 1 normal boss and 1 "rare" enemy. tuning isn't final yet either btw.

There's also 1 weapon you can get that has a weapon unleash. tell me what version of gladeus did you use? the one I've fine-tuned the most so far is 2 handed gladeus.

okay, I'm not sure how well that one will be doing just yet, but I have to ask, how was auto-counter? did it seem like it was way too powerful?

****
Rep:
Level 71
It was way under powered. It was rather 1 damage or a miss.

***
Rep:

the miss is fine, it's only intended to have 60% hit chance...... but I guess I may have to buff the attack co-efficient a bit....

if you don't mind, try the 2 handed guy.

Finally back after all the shiny newness of Mists of Pandaria has worn off. I started off by fixing up some things in my first game (Legend of Zero) and uploading a new version of it (http://www.mediafire.com/?38b117okxf7qq6a)

In the next couple weeks I intend to finish this one (Legacy of a Warrior) and then finally begin part 3! If anyone clicks on the download link, please let me know what you think in a PM (please remember that the link is for my first game, and not this one, so I would like to keep any discussion of it off of here)
