How do I turn a bitmap image into an Icon?

Cap'n Snowflake.
Heres how I do it,
I make the bitmap a certain size (depends what kind of icon, such as a favicon, or Game Maker icon)
Then I right click > hit properties > rename it to "bitmap.ico"

It should work.

Heres how I do it,

That didn't work but I opend paint, and saved it, I named it Icon.ico and it saved as an icon. Thanks for the idea.

Paint can't save .ico files properly, oftentimes I can't use the icons I create with Paint in GM.

Google "The GIMP".  Freeware image program, can save to TONS of different formats, including icons, and it's an awesome image program.
