Hello there and welcome to Event Trivia sponsored by your all time favorites: Zeriab and blueXx!

We are looking for 10 fresh eventers!

This is a forum game like Clue know from the forum games section.
The rules might vary a bit with two organizer instead of one.
Our goal with this topic is to spread knowledge about events in a fun and challenging way.
Our events will be from RPG Maker XP. Most of these will be easy to implement in another version.
There might be a few which cannot be implemented in the same way on other versions. We will not check the events universal validity.

To illustrate the heart of the questions we find nothing better than an example:
A standard event has the event commands

You don't have to consider how it is triggered.
What does this event do?
Assuming Switch 1 is on: What is the output of the event?
How many outcomes does this event have?

Answer the questions separately.

========================

Winner:
-11 point - mark

out of the contest: (in order of removal)
1. -7 points - Tsunokiette (after 2 questions, Reason:  tech issues)
2. -12 points - Percifit Citate (after 2 questions, Reason: inactive)
3. -9 point - ahref (at question 3, Reason: not enough time)
4. -15 points - thatsmypie (at question 3, reason: inactive)
5. -17 points - Ramiro(after question 3, reason: inactive)
6. -17 points - inmoriam(after question 3, reason: inactive)
7. -22 points - HaloOfTheSun (after question 4, reason: not enough points)
8. -24 point - deadly_diablo (after question 4, reason: not enough points)
9. -25 point - GilgameshRO (after question 5, reason: not enough points)

Rules:
Be sure to answer the events within 24 hours starting from the time the events are posted.
Be also sure to read the rules, and remember to PM either me (Zeriab) or blueXx with your answer.
Don't reply to this pm. If you have questions post them instead in the Event Trivia.
Posting your answer in the topic itself will lead to disqualification.

The rules in the below post also apply.

Tip: Read the whole event and do what is requested.

don't expect it to be too easy, there will be some hard events.

so if you think you are the best eventer around (excluding me and zeriab) then sign up and try it out.
we will start easy and it will get harder with each round.

each event will have a set period of time to answer, 24 hours should be enough i think and every round someone will lose
(time periods may change if the questions are hard)

to make it clear, the answer can be full or partly(partly as in you got some of the stuff we wanted to hear but not all)
if you answer it fully you get 1 good point
for every detail you miss you get 1 bad point
the person with the least points (starts at 0, bad is -1 good is +1) at each round will find themselves flying away (scores are kept if you massed up even once you might find yourselves struggling at the bottom)
there can be more than 1 person out at a time

good luck and good hunting

It is a conditional branch. If switch one is off a message comes up saying switch one is off. If it is on a message comes up saying switch one is on!

Some people on this forum dont even know what a conditional branch is  :?
Mayby you should reduce the player limit because it is gonna be hard gettin 10 members from this site that know what a condition branch is.

Your answer would be considered as a partiel answer.
The reason for this is you answer some of the questions correctly, but not all.
When answering you should split up your answer and show which part of the answer belongs to which.

As an example it should also have had an answer with. A satisfactory answer to the example would be:
Quote from: Answer
What does this event do?
It is a conditional branch.
If switch 1 is on a message comes up saying "Switch 1 is on!".
If switch 1 is not on a message comes up saying "Switch 1 is off!".

Assuming Switch 1 is on: What is the output of the event?
A message saying: "Switch 1 is on!"

How many outcomes does this event have?
It has 2 outcomes.

Note: This is not the answer. It's just a correct and full answer.

The Event Trivia is starting with the first question.
Be sure to read the rules on page 1. They have been updated!
Remember: Posting your answer in this topic will lead to disqualification.

Now the first event will be posted below this line:
===================================

We will start out very simple. Too simple you may say.
It's a very easy test to get signed up you could say.
Trigger condition is not to be considered. Non-Common Event is assumed as standard.
Anyway design and post an event that when triggered will display a message saying: "I rule at eventing!".
Now when you've done that:
How do you make the message window invisible so that only the next message arrow and the text will show?

*****
MANMACHINE
Rep:

Can we just cover both with the same event? (Because I am lazy.)

Better question: Should we show how to make the message window invisible with an event, or do we have to write it out with words?

*

Rep:

Yes, you can do both things in 1 event.
I recommend that you also write it out with words.
This is of no big deal right now, but latter this could be the difference between it being a partly or full answer.

if you really don't want to lose i suggest you'll uninstall and reinstall or start hoping over half the players will answer it all wrong in which case everyone will stay in the game but seeing as they will have a big damage to their points they will probably won't hang in the game for long

ok guys
i actually think half of you are out lol
but in that case everyone are still in until only 1-2 can get out at a time
zeriab will post results and the solution later

you now have 24 hours to solve this next riddle:

Quote
young civilian14 lives in the grassy area of her empty town.
she wants to go to the sand areas.
though in her town the guards only allow grownups on the sandy areas

she needs your help to work the magic of eventing of how to make her a grownup (by transforming into mage08).

but there is a catch, she enjoys being young and she doesn't want to put any efforts into the magic.(as in no "if button pushed" is needed)

she needs you to make it so that when she touches sand she will be a grownup but as soon as she is on the grass again she will be the young girl she is.

the map looks like that:

your objective:
making an event that will help her with her little problem.

if you can make an event with the same amount of lines as i did (Will be showen as the solution after 24 hours) you will obtain 1 point, if you can actually use less lines, you will obtain 2 points.
for 1 extra line you will get to keep the 0 and for every extra line after it you will lose a point.

if your event is over 5 lines longer you will get -5
if it doesn't work or if you failed to pm it to me(blueXx) or zeriab in time you will lose 10 points.

good luck

I know what you're trying to do... But know that it really can be done with just one event. Which is really alot more effective. Even if you could use more then one event I think the total lines would have to be counted. As such you would still lose 5 points. =/

some of you should have done it because some of you messed up so bad they got -10
and wanna hear something sad? only 1 person got -4 the rest got -5 or -10

you'll find up who screwed up the most in 5 minutes

that's right people!

5 minutes remaining so send the final answers quickly
edit:

ok time is up, put your pencils down and cry.
no really some of your should cry

let's star with my solution:

well of course it's a para as it saves alot of lines.
this will first only check the player X so it's more effective (though seeing as i had to check y all of those who checked X and Y didn't lose a point for that since all i asked is the least lines and not the most effect)
well once we found that X is 9 or smaller we don't need to add a thing, she has to transform to a mage.
otherwise we check if y is 3 or smaller , if it is she has to be a mage if not we are left with the grassy area.
and no one at all made it the same or shorter.

ok so first comes first served.

Quote from: tsu
Although I do know that the events would have to be hero touch event (hero on top of event) and you use the Change Hero Graphic event command to change the graphics from the Civilian graphic to the Mage08 graphic and vice-versa.

well tsu.. even though you do know how to get easy -5, you still quitted.

Quote from: Halo

<>Change Hero Graphic: Mage08

The event needs to be set to "On Hero Touch", and "Below Hero". It also needs to be placed on all the sand tiles that touch the grass ones, except for the corners. What the...

Next:

<> Change Hero Graphic: Civillian14

"On Hero Touch", and "Below Hero". Set on all the grass tiles that are adjacent to the sand tiles.

in other words... so many events = so many lines = -5
at least it works.

Quote from: ahref

wow that guy is so pleased with his event he wrote his name all over
let's assume it worked, it would have been -5 as it's even longer than the hero touch
but if poor c14 will stand on any of those events she will keep changing
the result:

need  i to say? -10.

now gilg.

he was actually close.
he was the only one who almost had it
and then he screwed it all up.

gilg, if y isn't smaller or equal to 3 i believe it has to be bigger or equal to 4
if x isn't smaller or equal to 9 then yes it has to be bigger or equal to 10
you wasted branches
wasted lines
in total the price was -4/-5
i decided to give you -4 and ignore the last "Else"
because there couldn't possibly be any else.
please be more careful next time, and well done for only having -4

Quote from: deadly_diablo

how can someone have such a great promising start and still ruin it and destroy the event completely?
notice- your first branch is not connected to the rest
she will keep changing into mage8 all the time for 0.1frame, enough for the guards to see

and the switches had nothing to do with anything
they made it worse, once you the first condition will be met the switch will forever be on.
it's just a complete chaos that gives you a -10

Quote from: mark

well it's long so it's already -5
there is alot of chaos there that could have been solved if instead of if x= or iif y= you'd do >= or > or <
it's like you are checking something dumb and then cover for it later

well it seems like in walking she will be fine though, but the day she will learn to jump 2 cells she will be in troubles...
i am really not sure if to give you -5 or -10
i am really wondering..
i think i'll give you -5 for this one, cause for now it works and you are on the right way.

everyone else didn't send and thus got -10

also i have decided that "Percifit Citate" is out because he didn't even get the pm in time so he is not active.

table up soon.

blueXx will post results and the solution later

We've decided to go a bit easier on you.
You now have 24 hours to solve this next riddle: (Starting from this first edit)

Quote from: EventTrivia - No. 3
I have made this Common Event:

What does it do? (brief explanation)

Why is it unsafe?

A good and full answer will yield you 2 points.
Not answering at all will yield you -5 points.

The last question has a bigger weight than the first question when judging.
Incorrectness will of course reduce your score.

If you do answer the amount of points you will receive lies in the interval [-5, 2], which means you can receive any amount of points between -5 and 2, both inclusive.

Now pull yourselves together and give good answers!

Edit: Stupid slow ImageShack. Anyway I finally uploaded it. The starting time will be from this edit. OMG, I found ImageShack.dk it doesn't seem to host porn, but I understand little of what it says.

i am not saying it doesn't work for the eye
it does, but the eye is nothing.

first of- seeing as your switch can only be turned on this has no use at all
once it's on it will never be turned off and that's why i find it quite useless

basicly this is how your event work:

the para checks first condtion:
if x is smaller or equal to 9 then - change into mage (so far, perfection)
-a seriously useless switch is turned on.
else
it changes you to c14

now, let's assume you are at any point on x=10 y =3
for 0.1 frames (invisible to the eye) she will become c14 ON SAND AREAS
this is just why i decided to judge your event as unusable.
the eye of the guard is always watching ;)

it keeps going.
if y is smaller or equal to 3 (thanks for suddenly figuring it out but you are 0.1 frames behind) she will become a mage
again , you are running late, you should have conditioned it inside the first condition.
and now goes a funny part.
else
(as in if you are at the grass area)
if the switch is on (you touched the left sands already) don't do anything.

so let's assume she wanted to go to the sand areas
she is now at X=9 and she is a mage, a switch is turned on.
she goes back to the grass areas but...
she is still a mage!
now she cries for her lost youth and it's all your fault.
but the tears only last for 0.1 frames as the para goes back to the start and since she isn't on X <=9 she becomes c14 again

the result?
she was a mage for 0.1frames on grass for just 1 time
and for 0.1frames she was c14 on sand areas EVERY time the para works (and that's alot of times)
holy shit my sig was big!

time is up, zeriab will post the results later.

new riddle for whoever is still on their feet.
(a notice pm will be sent later when the table stands and everyone who needs to be kicked will be kicked)

ok so c14, as unhappy from all the extra lines as she might, needs your help again.

a really rich lady passed in the sand areas of c14's town (makes you wonder why c14 needed to go there so badly)

she invited the rich lady to a short game of guess the number i think about
the rich lady accepted though she said if out of 100 tries one will be right c14 has to become her slave forever and ever and then some

c14 gladly accepted hoping she is backed up.
(if she wins she gets half of the rich lady's money and she might just be willing to grant you a point )

ok so here is what you need to do:
make an event to help c14 not being able to ever lose.
it has to at least look like she is randomizing her numbers and not waiting for the rich lady to tell her the number or otherwise the rich lady will think c14 is cheating and it's game over for c14

the first line will thus be variable1 = rand(1,13)
(in other words the number has to be between 1 and 13)

to end your event you will say the rich lady's number and c14's number

everything between those 2 lines has to be made by you.

this is a fairly easy question

and again, every extra line is -1
same lines is 1
and less lines is 2
worse lines reduce is -5
and failing to get it working or to send the solution (and forcing poor c14 to become a slave) is -10

good luck to anyone who is still in it
something tells me this is one of the last events so try not to make an idiot out of yourself.

good luck.

1. I belive it is intended to allow you to restart a "level" or room, teleporting you to a temporary room, and then back to the starting location (I am assuming that is what "First_Event" represents) of the level or room. However, it simply teleports you to the temporary room.

2. Well... for one, you will get stuck in the temporary room. Thats the only "unsafe" thing that I see... Assuming this event actually worked right, you also don't reset any of the switches or anything, which could potentially cause problems.

PS: These questions don't seem to involve much real event knowledge... Maybe you should have also asked us how to make something like this work?

It does work. All you need is consistency. You need to make sure that you place the first event on every map where the event might be invoked.
You'll be stuck in the temporary room if and only if you trigger the event in the temporary room and have malplaced the first event.

Answer 1:
The common event assigns three variables.
Variable 1 takes the id of the map the player is on.
Variable 2 sets the variable equal to the first event relative screen x coordinates
Variable 3 sets the variable equal to the first event relative screen y coordinates
 Next,a teleport command transfers the player to a second map,specific location being x coords=10; y coords =10:
      Transfer Player:[002:Temp_Map],(010,010)
Another Teleport command transfers the player using the three variables assigned before.
      Transfer Player:Variable [0001][0002][0003]
This second teleport command will transfer the player to:the map id stored in variable 1,the relative screen x coords value in variable 2,and the relative screen y coords
value in variable 3.

Answer 2:
It is unsafe because when teleported back the player might appear offscreen,or even in a unpassable tileset. The value for x and y should be specific and not relative.

+1

well the event is basicly saving the X and Y of event1 and teleport the player to a new map and from there to the saved map and X and Y
the risks:
a. event 1 may not exist, it may be deleted after making the teleport event, it may not have been made yet.
b. teleporting on an event which may not be phasable is not a very good idea
c. the event may be outside of the actual map, in the "black zone" or on a building or anything of sort that you don't want to land on

well that's what zeriab said...

List of players:
1. -3 point - mark
2. -5 point - GilgameshRO
3. -12 points - HaloOfTheSun
4. -14 point - deadly_diablo

out of the contest:
1. -7 points - Tsunokiette (after 2 questions, Reason:  tech issues)
2. -12 points - Percifit Citate (after 2 questions, Reason: inactive)
3. -9 point - ahref (at question 3, Reason: not enough time)
4. -15 points - thatsmypie (at question 3, reason: inactive)
5. -17 points - Ramiro(at question 3, reason: inactive)
6. -17 points - inmoriam(at question 3, reason: inactive)

I didn't finish what I wanted to write, but the score's right.
GilgameshRO: -2 because an answer, though not correct, was given.

Mark: +1 because question 1 was fully and correctly answered and question 2 was only partly answered.

You forgot the most important issue: "event 1 may not exist".
Why is this more important than being stuck?
If event 1 does not exist the game will crash.
If event 1 is placed some wierd place you'll only get stuck. You could imagine that you just could use another item or skill to teleport you out of it.

If you understand why it is unsafe you have better chance of preventing unsafety issues.
You can do this by being very consistent.
Just always use that system you've planed when making a new map,
You can see this in my GamosMapPack, where the first event in the levels is the start place.
I placed them to see where I should teleport to from other maps.
I used a unsafe common event simply because it was a short and easy way to solve the problem of having the ability to restart any given level.

Unsafe events can be very powerful, but also dangerous if you don't know what your dealing with. Therefore this 'real' event knowlegde is needed.

Edit: No new event will be posted before blueXx post the results as the chance of a winner is prominent.

only mark sent an answer

mark how to tell you that...
we are talking about 100 games ,even blaze would understand that every time he say a high number you say a low one and vice versa
it's still ok if the rich lady is a moron...
it's not really likely though...

here is my solution:

2 lines longer than yours (removing message and opening random)
and yet no matter what she will never be able to find out
(if she said 7 only if my number was 7 it would become 8, though for her 7 i could get every number but 7)

you got 2 points for making it shorter but i am going to damage your score for having such an obvious pattern, sorry.

i think 5 points are enough so in total -3

so that as you can see the table is

1. -6 points - mark
2. -15 points - GilgameshRO
3. -22 points - halo
4. -24 points - d"d

d"d is out for having the lowest score
however halo doesn't stand a chance anymore and he gets removed too

with -6 and -15 it's still possible if mark gets it wrong and gilg gets the next one perfectly right (assuming we are playing +2 to -10)

but i'll leave that judgement to zeriab, the next riddle is his.( if there will be one)
holy shit my sig was big!

I had one lying around anyway, so I'll post it.
The possibility of GilgameshRO winning is still there, but it will require both skill and luck.
As this is the final event you will get 48 hours from the start of this post to answer.

This time you have to design an event. No questions, just this one event with the requirements.
You do not have to consider the triggering condition of the event.

Let Q, R and S represent the trueness of 3 switches where true means the switch is turned on and not true means the switch is turned off. The following actions must be taken under the circumstances:

Action 1: Q AND R
Action 2: !Action1 and S

No further actions are necessary.

For those who don't understand wtf I am saying here's a version easier to understand:
This time you have 3 switches. They are called Q, R and S.
You must make an event so it will do certain action when Q and R are ON. This action will be called Action 1
This event must also do a certain action when S is ON. This action will be called Action 2
There is also another condition. If Q and R are ON so Action 1 is triggered then Action 2 must not be triggered regardless of S's state.
No further actions are necessary.

You must illustrate the placement of the action by inserting a comment containing "Action 1" for Action 1 and "Action 2" for Action 2. Make NO other comments.
You may place the same action (1 or 2) several times in the event under the condition that a action cannot be triggered several times.

Now you may say: This can easily be done with conditional branching.
Yes, it can. There is however a catch. If your event works it will be awarded points.
Your event receives 1 point per branch or something similar.

If your event receives 3 points your answer is consider to be full.
Receiving less points is better and more is worse.

Also an excess use of lines will also be taken into account.

Now begin eventing!!!

First of, here's my solution:

The only one who actually answered was mark with this:
Quote from: mark
[img=http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/5564/finalanswer9ie.th.jpg]

I did not change the tags to actually show the image because I though you didn't do that to prevent breaking the layout.

Anyway your event is wrong.
Consider the following to be true:
    1. Q is ON
    2. R is OFF
    3. S is ON[/list:u]

Under those circumstances should action 2 be triggered, but your event does not trigger  action 2. In fact it does nothing under those circumstances.

    You will receive -5 points.

GilgameshRO will receive -10 points for not answering.

    Results:
    1. -11 point

none of you is worthy of being called an eventer, i hope you realize that.
actually the person who impressed me the most
no, delete that, the only person that showed signs to skill is gilg which decided he doesn't have to answer the last 2 questions, of course resulting in a loss.
(but sadly he didn't manage to answer those questions perfectly now did he?)

    thanks for playing...
    actually hardly anyone played
most of you ran away crying (aka stopped answering or admitted the running)

good luck on the other sections of rm. >>

    Lol, why so pesimistic?

Maybe next time, do (much) harder questions, and a week to solve them? Lol, that way I'd be able to answer them. I usually only have access once or twice a week.

EDIT: Forgot to congradulate Mark, congratz dude, you won with, *checks*, -11 points!!! rofl

Well, I didn't quite "quit", I just forgot about several things I had to do for school, and it all caught up to me at once. Although, I won't make any excuses, I'm sure I wouldn't have won if everyone had played.

    Yay...
    It's not i like i won...more like i was deserted  .
Anyway, thank's to BlueXx and Zeriab.I really learned a whole deal with this thing.Especially with variables.See,im still quite new to the rpg making scene, and i had just started fidling with variables,so this really helped me a lot. That last answer thought, makes me wanna hide in a whole and not come out again.I managed to f#<k up the only answer i actually knew!!Now the one before that ,of the rich Lady:Blue,i knew that it was to obvious, but i just couldn't do any better.I spent a lot of time, reserching about variables, random numbers, even how to make percentages and stuff. In the end, that's all i came up with.Even thought i knew about the obvious pattern,i sent it anyway,in the hopes i could still get some points(wich i did). But after seeing your answer. It looks so simple and so easy, and then you just think "how couldn't i think of that?".But truth is i couldn't.But know if i ever face something similar,i'll know what to do.That's why i'm very happy to have played this, regardless of any opinions here,i think it helped me alot.So thanks to the two guys in charge.Oh,and thanks to everyone for deserting me!!

yep, mark truely is the winner of this little topic.
it's just such a shame everyone else decided to flee as soon as they lost the leadership >>

also, about the rich lady, i thought of a better way, i rushed doing the first

basicly doing what i did give 2/13 chance for the number above the guess to show up

to avoid that, you could loop the randomizing like

    loop
    -c14number = rand(1,13)
    -if c14number == richladynumber then
    --(nothing)
    -else
    --end loop
    repeat

this will give every number an equal chance and will be impossible to spot even if you make a number chart

It does seem like mark is the true winner.
There might be some stalkers (people just reading, not post) around. If any of them learned something that's good too.
Also you should know the existence of problems that look similar to the ones we made, where the smart solution does not work. The solution may indeed be totally different. Keep that in mind when trying to solve a problem.
If you consider the girl changing appearance depeding on the ground With maps that are not so linear, like this one:

Another solution is better, but it involves a tiny bit of scripting:

The conditional branch should be called with:
    $game_map.terrain_tag($game_player.x,$game_player.y)==0
You can't see the whole line on the picture though.

Anyway you just have to give the sand another terrain tag and you're running.
The only problem is that you have to use some RGSS-code.

That event is however out of this topics scope, therefore we didn't include it, but I'm showing it now as it might prove useful.
