Story:
Willa & Rott is the unnatural tale of a girl and her dog. Years ago, an orphan Willa drowns in a nearby lake. The only one to hear her cries of help was her faithful dog Rott. Neither one of them survived, but they will walk the Earth again with a purpose. Since their deaths, they have watched over another orphan like Willa. He is a boy named Toby, and Willa is always there with him.

It is only when Toby is put in mortal danger from the evil Macovius that she can return from the dead for a single night. Willa will have to fight her way through creatures of the night, priests, dream sprites and a zombie hunter named Christian in order to get into the large complex keep of Macovius. Once inside the keep, Will and Rott will need to solve unique puzzles and meet magical allies to help them along the way, before Macovius sacrifices Toby.

This is a story driven game, which means you get very little freedom. I made this game from a screenplay I wrote for this game. It is very short, it takes me an hour and I know where everything is. It might take the average person 90 - 120 minutes to complete the first time. It makes for a great time killer. The reason why it is so short is it was for a competition that needed to be 60 minutes or less of gameplay.

There are puzzles, random battles, boss battles and a few plot twists. Stealth missions, talking rats that give hints and a magical illusion named Bunny that offers you to fight what's behind door #1 or door #2.

She's been in those ranks for a while now. Anyway, I recommend this game. It is her entry for the quest competition and I found it quite enjoyable (though I'm stuck on the library puzzle lol). I uploaded a new version. Since I sent you your own version a week ago. This version has some edits, and a pretext thing. You should be able to still keep your save file. The library puzzle is as the book tells you :-) What about the Rat? Did you do the puzzle with the talking Rat yet?

Yeah, I got that one. It was fun. But where do I perform the action for the library one? Or what does it refer to?

It refers to directions. Directions. There are so many ways to take directions. Just follow the directions in every way that you know how.

What is supposed to happen...

black screen with a few narrator lines. Then it goes to the opening sequence, a golden land with lines as it pans over.
Then once the golden land is finished it turns purple. Then it goes to another black screen as it pans to find the orphanage, but then it stops in the orphanage.

I think that could be a problem with not having enough virtual memory to RPG XP games, restart your computer, then try it again :-)

Sad to say rebooting didn't help... :'(
I did however discovered a slight mistake. in the first "golden" scene, there is a part from one of the trees missing.

To tell you the truth, I'm normally not so observant unless I have to, but since I can't continue, I just paid extra atencion to what I could see

I noticed that mistake. Also, I can't play the gane... Its goes to the orphanage. A few people speak and then a error screen appears and the gane closes.

I fixed the mistake for the next upload. I just tested it and I make it past that point.

Here is a question to help me pin point that mistake...

Do they talk after they have both moved?
Do you see them say the following:

I think the game crashes at accectly the moment she says that. Also I dont see a flash.

Its made with PK. I am thinking it must be either the flash screen or move event. Cause they do both at the same time. Cause if you say that Green says that... and there is no flash screen. Grenn says that and the screen flashes.

The problem I got before is that the screen turned black for a long time...
Then... No respond...
And before that, when I extracted the game, a window popped up and said: ??
So I re-downloaded 3 times...
And all the same.

Now I'm trying to download it again.

I just uploaded a new version. What I found interesting when I first uploaded the original version is that it was 3.1 MB, which was larger than any other files that I made Willa and Rott with. Now I made it again and its back down to 2.4 MB, which is what it originally was.

Download the new one, the old one seemed strange. Maybe this will fix it.

Oh to know its the new version check the file size or look at the errored tree.

Well, no error message. Instead I get no message and the game just closes at that point :'(

And I don't understand why. There are is no complicated programming. There really is no programming.

What are the specs of your computer?

They should be good enough. I don't think they're the problem. I tryed it on 2 different computers and on the second, it did give me the same error message as before...

The little I saw of the game seemed pretty good, though.

I took out where two characters appear out of thin air, so there is no "move event" function. I am hoping it is the move event function. Otherwise I will try taking out the Flash screen function. If its not that... I'll just take out everything :-)

Those are the only two special things, I for sure that it isn't the scripts... cause there are none.

It has always worked on my PC and laptop. Has it worked for anyone else? It worked for at least one other person that I know of.

It worked for me, but I did have that judges edition she mailed out a week or two before putting it out to the public.

There is nothing but dialog in there.

I have now taken out the little creepy line just to see what will happen now. Download it, try it. The game took me a month to make for an hours worth of gameplay and this little error makes no sense. Maybe if it was something more than dialog it would make sense.

Since your game is complete, it would be ideal to include an exe of the game that doesn't require RTP.

It doesn't require the RTP. People should be able to play it without having RPG Maker XP

I was unable to.

I am thinking that whatever part of the program that makes the .exes is corrupt, cause nothing else makes sense. I do the encryption which packs the RTP in there.

Any idea on what I should do? I could perhaps cut out the entire scene, but its a VERY long scene, and it leads into another act that is in the same level of the orphanage. Without them, you don't really know what's going on in the game. Another reason I always had dialog instead of movement :-)

Hmm... I downloaded it again, (not the judge's version, and it got past that part fine. What versions of XP are you guys using? I seem to recall that there is some kind of bug with dialog boxes in PK, but I thought it had something to do with the lower-case j, and so I doubt that is the problem. Meh... I don't know...

But why doesn't everyone else's game crash there? Everyone else as in the other games that people have made.

Maybe its the pan function, but the game long since stops the pan, before that dialog.

Another thing is there are no player characters in the party until the grave sequence (long after the orphanage). Could that be it?

It worked fine for me. I use Enterbrain though.

Do you have Postality Knights or Enterbrain. Blue Dragon or Orange Dragon?

Enterbrain and the icon is orange with a dragon...

Hmmm... I could make it so it uses the dragon, which originally it used the dragon, but then I realized that the blue dragon is someone else's script. The contest doesn't allow you to use other people's scripts :-)

I've uploaded a new version that uses the blue dragon instead. That is how I originally intended the game to be, before I downgraded it back to the orange sun. Download it, see if it crashes. If it does, I'm all out of ideas.

i beat it as of last night. it was a really rewarding story to see it finished. the puzzles were really innovative too especially the enter, up, right that puzzle.

I think I now know what could be causing the crash. The timer in the top right hand corner :-)

The game freezes at the part you split up with Rott

Wow someone got past the first glitch. I've killed the timer. That is the only thing I can think of that would cause the crash. All of the crashes actually.

Download the game again... I'm lucky its only 2.5 MB.

Alright, I just fixed it. Whenever I upload a new file, I have it named something different, then I delete the original and rename the new one... I forgot to rename it on the server.

Willa is supposed to lose, then Rott comes. Rott is supposed to win. I'm not sure its even possible for Willa to beat Percy. After that, its supposed to go into an action sequence. This game is turning out to be quite the disaster... I will go back to not using cut scenes.

*Tip(sleep spell in RMXp is a bit off balance even when your a low level you can win againts any mob aslong as he/she/it dont hit you in one blow)
